Mayor of Jersey City, Dad to Camila, Corinne, & Noelle. Cancer survivor. For the people — not the powerful.

Jersey City, NJ
There are few things I love about being Mayor more than getting to visit our firehouses & thank our firefighters for putting their lives at risk for residents every day. Thanks to Engine 22 & Ladder 4 on Ocean and Rescue 1 & Squad Company 4 on Communipaw for hosting me yesterday!

This morning, I was briefed by Public Safety leadership at Emergency Management Headquarters on the current Nor’easter. City agencies including @JCPD and @JCFD, are prepped for coastal flooding, high winds, and heavy rains that are expected to continue through Sunday.

I was briefed on shots fired near Brinkerhoff and Monticello, one block from Lincoln High School. One person has been shot. The individual is alert and conscious and receiving medical care.

The high school was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution, which has since been lifted as there is no ongoing threat.  I want to thank the JCPD officers for their quick response. One individual has been detained, and officers safely recovered three handguns.

The investigation is still in its early stages, and we will provide more information when we are able to. Gun violence has no place in Jersey City, especially near a school where our children and families should feel safe.

This comprehensive report lays out a troubling pattern of behavior that has no place in public service. Lt. Gov. Caldwell should resign immediately. I thank @GovSherrillNJ for her leadership and for refusing to let misconduct get swept under the rug in New Jersey.
Today, I’m announcing the conclusion and findings of an independent investigation into allegations regarding Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell. The investigation found that the Lieutenant Governor engaged in serious, repeated violations of state policy and failed to uphold the responsibilities of his office. I’m calling for his resignation and giving him until tomorrow to do so. I hold everyone in my Administration to the highest ethical standard. We all have a duty to follow our state ethics and harassment policy and our Code of Conduct. Anyone who violates these will be held accountable. These violations substantiated in the investigation reflect a pattern of behavior that does not meet the standards of this Administration. The ethical lapses persisted despite multiple warnings and trainings. The substantiated finding of sexual harassment is extremely troubling. I’ve seen firsthand how a hostile culture can undermine everyone’s ability to succeed. It’s insidious and ruptures the trust within an organization. Leaders have an obligation to make sure everyone in an organization is bought into the mission and able to succeed. I take that responsibility incredibly seriously. My goal as Governor is to empower our hardworking public servants, so they can remain focused on serving our state. As a former federal prosecutor, I’m committed to ensuring everyone is treated fairly. This investigation was thorough and impartial. It was initiated by the Chief Ethics Officer and conducted by a respected former state Attorney General. The investigation fully examined the evidence, followed the facts, and protected everyone’s privacy. In my Administration, we are committed to doing what is right, not what is politically expedient. The Lieutenant Governor’s resignation is necessary and in the best interest of New Jersey residents. The President continues to undermine confidence in public service at the federal level. In New Jersey, I will not accept a culture that sweeps misconduct under the rug. We have to be better than that — people expect and deserve better. I have dedicated my life to service. I know that jobs of public trust impact the lives of everyday people, and I deeply respect the oaths and responsibilities of these positions. I will always put the interests of the people of New Jersey first.

This is what building for working families looks like - one that puts residents over developers by delivering: ✅Rents under $1,000 ✅Union jobs ✅New park in the South Side ✅Retail and commercial space and we're just getting started..

Jersey City said no to data centers. Recently, the City Council and I banned new data center construction in Jersey City. These facilities eat up huge amounts of electricity and water, strain a grid that's already stretched, and push up utility bills for working families, all while creating almost no local jobs. Our land is too valuable and our residents are too important to hand over to server farms. Thank you to the Council for standing with Jersey City residents.

Thank you to the Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Church for inviting me to the Annual Festival. It was a pleasure to meet with church leaders, chat with congregants, and even get to meet some of "Heaven's Heros" — kids dressed up as religious figures like Saint George and the Pope!

I had the honor of celebrating Christine Goodman twice last week at City Hall and Art House. Frankly, 10 celebrations wouldn't be enough to recognize the contributions Christine made over 25 years of serving and growing JC's incredible arts community. Thank you, Christine.
