I can tell you from 2 decades working in NFPs that the charitable sector isn't funded by billionaires, it's funded by ladies called Dorothy in their 80s. It isn't the rich who support the poor, it's the poor. And that's where progressive taxation comes in. #auspol
Won't someone please think of the billionaires!! Why should they pay tax when there's a perfectly good system of 'the poors' begging them for money? #auspol

Very moving to see Parliament House wearing a Walmajarri painting tonight. The facade has been illuminated with Numbat Night by John Prince Siddon, a Walmajarri artist based in Rubibi/Broome, for National Reconciliation Week.

Well, the $2 million jet and $2 million in donations from Gina and her mates is now starting to make a whole lot of sense…

What? What??? It’s your policies and lack of action - which is creating the need for these charities in the first place. What a betrayal 😞😞😞 #auspol
Today I boosted funding for 196 emergency relief providers across Australia by 15% this year. It means orgs like Vinnies can keep providing food, clothing, and essentials to anyone in need. We’re making sure no one has to choose between paying bills or putting food on the table.

Normalising the reliance on food banks - instead of raising the rate and investing in basic services - has been a low-key disaster for communities and collective, civil society as a whole but go off queen

The Mutual Obligations system is: -operating unlawfully -not getting ppl jobs (according to Labor's own recent inquiry) -costing us $4b a year to run -punishing ~50% of the cohort (disproportionately First Nations ppl, homeless ppl, & ppl with a disability) simply abolish it
The “defective” payment cancellations have renewed calls for the government to end mutual obligation requirements for welfare recipients. crikey.com.au/2025/10/01/it-…

Easily the best and most Australian analogy ever. Shutting down a racist at the same time is just the cherry on top.

Advance discovering the failure of neoliberal corporate welfare was not something I expected to happen this week lol - wonder if this means they’ll pivot to supporting the nationalisation of industry
Good morning. Explain it to us once more why Australia can't make these again?

This remains the biggest, unspoken scandal in Australian politics, btw 224, 960 payment suspensions were issued against disadvantaged cohorts in the last quarter. The Department's (outsourced) assurance review couldn't provide assurance that any of these punishments are lawful
incredible scenes in the unlawful mutual obligations system The Employment Secretary, who used to be a Partner at Deloitte, contracted them to provide assurance that the system operates in line w/ the law Deloitte's report couldn't provide it so the department tried to bury it

Your regular reminder that every year the Australian people subsidise private schools to the tune of $22 billion while the public school down the road from you will be waiting another decade for its bare minimum funding.
