President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan joined President Donald J. Trump and Mrs. Melania Trump for tea at the White House. The two presidents agreed to add new substance to their vision for the China-U.S. relationship, jointly building a constructive relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness and reciprocity.

In 1972, US President Richard Nixon made a historic visit to China. A plant of the American redwood tree was sent from Nixon's home state of #California as a gift, along with four other saplings. Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai decided to plant them in #Hangzhou, where he and Nixon would meet. Nixon said upon returning from China, "Just as we hope that those saplings—those tiny saplings that we left in China—will grow one day into mighty redwoods, so we hope, too, that the seeds planted on this journey for peace will grow and prosper into a more enduring structure for peace and security in the Western Pacific." The redwood tree has since then stood as a symbol of 🇺🇸🇨🇳 friendship and has been growing well to this day. Yet it has fared differently than in California—a reminder that plants, like people, need to adapt to the local environment.

President Xi shared a story about Mr. Sakolsky. Over 20 years ago, an American named Ronald Sakolsky gave financial support to Yin Yuzhen, a Chinese desert control worker, for her tree-planting effort. Their story touches the hearts of many Chinese people and stands as a shining example of the friendly exchanges between the two peoples.

President Xi noted in his toast remarks that this visit has added new substance to the constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, and provided new strategic guidance for China-U.S. relations. The two sides must act as responsible major countries, meet the expectations of the two peoples, keep pace with the trend of the times, explore a new approach for major countries to get along with each other, and write a new chapter in their friendly relations.

In may this year, President Xi Jinping promised President Donald Trump Chinese rose seeds. This September, that promise is blossoming—in the White House.

Madame Peng Liyuan and Mrs. Melania Trump visited the National Museum of Asian Art and enjoyed a Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower sung by Chinese and American children. It was an interplay of the two nations’ history and culture.

President Xi said, the two sides can continue their dialogue on AI, exchange views on its risks and benefits,and jointly prevent the misuse and abuse of AI. AI must be kept under human control. A people-centered approach should be upheld, and AI should be developed for the positive and for good, so that AI will serve the progress of humanity.

On economic and trade matters, President Xi said that cooperation is a two-way street. So long as both sides act in the spirit of equality, mutual respect, and mutual benefit, a pathway to resolving differences can always be found. It is hoped that the two sides will move in the same direction, namely adhering to mutual benefit and win-win results and promoting the stable development and improvement of China-U.S. economic and trade ties.

The two presidents agreed to support each other in hosting the 2026 #APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and the #G20 Summit.

President Xi Jinping stressed that the Chinese side’s position on safeguarding national reunification and territorial integrity is clear-cut. It is hoped that the U.S. side will adhere to the correct position of opposing “Taiwan independence,” and handle the Taiwan question with caution, so as to lay a solid foundation for China-U.S. strategic cooperation and the development of bilateral relations.

After his plane was hit by Japanese fire, Chinese civilians and soldiers rescued him under enemy blockade and nursed him back to health. That was a time when🇨🇳and🇺🇸fought shoulder to shoulder.
