Gusto, however, is a different story. To be fair, Gusto did a decent job in an unfamiliar position. But Caicedo’s injury showed exactly why we cannot afford to be this open against Arsenal. The Emirates will demand much more control. And honestly, I think this is where Valentin Barco has to enter the conversation. If midfield options are becoming limited because of injuries and Enzo Fernández remains uncertain amid Manchester City’s interest, Xabi has to start trusting Barco. He cannot be any worse than using Gusto there. Chelsea already have enough attacking quality to hurt almost any defence in this league. But against Arsenal, creating chances will not be enough. We need to control the game, protect the defence and stop Arsenal from dictating the tempo. If Chelsea want to leave the Emirates with all three points, Xabi Alonso may have to make a bold decision. Expecting the Premier League to strip Man City’s titles and hand them to Manchester United is just day dreaming. Even after being found guilty of breaching financial regulations, City will just write a cheque, accept a slap on the wrist fine and a minor transfer ban and carry on as usual. Stripping titles creates a logistical nightmare the FA is far too lazy to handle. United fans can keep begging for easy trophies but the league would rather collect pocket change than rewrite history just to satisfy rival fans who couldn’t win those titles on the pitch anyway.

But football doesn't care about potential. We've tried protecting him. We've tried changing his position. We've tried managing his minutes. And the injuries keep coming. That doesn't mean James is finished. Far from it. I still want him at Chelsea. Give him minutes, bring him on when we need experience, control and someone who can help kill a game. Build a strong team around players we can consistently rely on, then let James be the weapon he can still be. It's sad, man. But sometimes football isn't fair. No matter how bad Chelsea are, they always perform strongly in finals no matter who they're facing. In the few times Chelsea didn't perform well in any final it's pretty easy to know that there is something so horrendously bad with the club at that very time.
