In an age of structural uncertainty, what will define the future of trade? Global trade is entering a new phase, shaped by increased fragmentation and accelerating digitalisation. We surveyed 2,100 senior corporate decision-makers across 27 markets for our latest Future of Trade report to discover how businesses are adapting to this complex trading environment. Our research reveals a significant shift from geographic reconfiguration of supply chains to the refinement of existing networks to increase resilience through better supplier management, digital visibility and scenario planning. We also found that faster digitalisation and AI adoption could help companies harness cost savings while tapping into new trade opportunities. This year’s report examines the potential economic impact of our survey findings with two illustrative scenarios leveraging Oxford Economics’ Global Economic Model. In our Digital Acceleration scenario, faster adoption of digital trade capabilities and AI could help unlock an additional USD2.8 trillion in global trade by 2031. Watch our video to discover how leading corporates are responding to uncertainty. To discover more insights, read the full report: sc.com/en/corporate-investme… #FutureofTrade #FoT

When girls stay in sport, opportunity follows. At the United Nations General Assembly in New York this week, we took part in a panel discussion with UN Women and Liverpool Football Club to explore how sport can advance gender equality and create lasting opportunities for girls. Sal Vitale, CFA, our Head of Coverage, US & Americas, Corporate & Investment Banking, represented Standard Chartered at the event alongside our partners Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda from UN Women, Kate (Pratt) Theobald from Liverpool Football Club and Sarah Axelsen from Women's Sports Foundation. Research shows that girls drop out of sport at twice the rate of boys by age 14. The barriers are systemic, vary across markets, and no single organisation or campaign can solve them alone. The panel discussed how working collectively is essential to turn shared ambition into sustained, measurable action, so that every girl has the opportunity to play on and realise her full potential. Standard Chartered and our partners want to help more girls stay in the game because playing sport builds confidence, resilience and teamwork, helping girls stay in education, access better opportunities and develop the skills to thrive throughout their lives. #PlayOn #PowerOfPartnerships

How do you finance clean energy projects at scale if traditional funding models don't stack up? By finding innovative ways to attract private capital. Clean cooking is a powerful example. Replacing polluting cooking fuels can improve public health, whilst reducing emissions. Yet due to relatively low financial returns, clean cooking projects have often struggled to attract affordable capital. That is exactly what the Clean Cooking Outcome Bond was designed to address. Through an innovative structure that repackaged the underlying risks, in 2025 Standard Chartered supported the World Bank to issue a USD200 million six-year outcome bond, raising USD30.5mn of low-cost funding for 415,000 clean cooking devices in Ghana and avoiding 1.8mn tonnes of CO2 emissions. In this video, our Group Chief Executive Bill Winters and Jorge Familiar, Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank Group, explain how this complex transaction works. Explore the full case study to find out more: sc.com/en/news/corporate-inv… This is just one of several real-world transactions we will be drawing on for inspiration at the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group, as we discuss how innovative development finance structures can be designed and scaled across Africa and Asia to mobilise private capital, create fiscal flexibility and deliver measurable outcomes. #SustainableFinance #WBG #IMF

Institutional adoption of digital assets has moved from trial to practical commercial use. To meet the differing needs we’re integrating custody, tokenisation, and 24/7 settlement into standard institutional banking workflows: 1. Custody: Institutional-grade servicing designed to bridge legacy and digital portfolios. 2. Tokenisation: Improving collateral mobility and primary market issuance. 3. Settlement: Enabling instant cross-border liquidity via Partior and other regulated rails. Providing optionality to help clients navigate what comes next [at scale] is driving us. theasianbanker.com/updates-a…

We implemented the first live cross-border transaction on Swift's blockchain-based ledger, in partnership with @HSBC. Announced in August, this milestone is part of a broader industry effort to enable distributed ledger technology to support real-world payment use cases at scale, while preserving the role of regulated bank money. As institutional demand grows for faster, more efficient ways to move liquidity and optimise working capital increase, interoperable tokenised deposits will play an increasingly important role in helping corporate and institutional clients manage treasury operations, unlock operational efficiencies and support real-time liquidity management across markets. As organisations accelerate AI adoption, one reality is becoming increasingly clear: AI is only as effective as the data, governance and human judgement that underpin it. In a recent article, Shebani Baweja, Group Chief Data Officer, highlights that one of the biggest barriers to scaling AI is often not the technology itself, but the quality, consistency, and governance of the underlying data. Organisations that combine reliable data, proportionate governance, and skilled talent will be best positioned to innovate with confidence and deliver better outcomes.
