Stats nerd. Queer parent. Disabled writer. Mediocre aerialist. New poetry book, "Pieces That Fit", out now in Melbourne bookshops and online at @BookshopDarlo

Returning to Twitter to invite Melbournians to the launch of my first poetry book, "Pieces that Fit, and other poems set in Melbourne". 2pm Sunday 6th August at @ReadingsBooks St Kilda. There will be live music, wine and poetry. Book here (bring friends!): readings.com.au/events/poetr…
Tomorrow is National Ride to School Day, or as another parent called it: “a normal day except the bike shed’ll be chockers”. 😄As a kid I was jealous of kids in books who rode their bikes around with their friends, so I’m glad now my kid now can do exactly that. #ride2schoolday

And no, I haven’t been to Antarctica, though by all accounts it’s amazing. The poem is more about the privilege of ecotourism and Antarctica is arguably the pinnacle of ecotourism, being the only continent without permanent inhabitants, and so remote and expensive.
Melbourne folk, the fab @JasperPeachSays is launching their new book at @YarraLibraries on 16 March. It’s full of stories and advice from rainbow parents, including me! Entry is free but you need to book here: eventbrite.com.au/e/jasper-p…
My 6yo and I both have the @MatildaMusical soundtrack stuck in our heads but she doesn’t know the word “revolting” so instead of “revolting children,” she sings: “We are multi children, living in multi times. We sing multi songs using multi rhymes.” I mean, she’s not wrong. 😄
So many feelings reading @annaspargoryan’s memoir. Also as a similarly-aged Melbournite I wanna know which high-school those hilariously harsh sentences were about. Unless identifying landmarks have been changed, I reckon it’s Wesley College. Am I right?! Nowhere else fits. 🙃😉
ALT Cover of the book “A Kind of Magic” by Anna Spargo-Ryan. It’s sky-blue with white writing, colourful strokes of paint, and golden teardrops. The book is on blue-grey fabric (my couch).
For anyone who hasn’t read the book, the “identifying landmark” was the Sanity store on Chapel St, South Yarra, which was THE place to be in the mid-‘90s to flick through CDs but mostly not buy them, because you needed cash to get KFC chips afterwards.
While de-cluttering yesterday I noticed one of my evening bags was oddly bulky. Inside I found a small wooden onion, wooden eggplant and piece of wooden sushi that went missing several years ago. That’s how often I use evening bags. #parentlife
My poem, Red Sonnet, Country song is featured in the new Digital Realism issue of @text_journal... but since it is a found poem partly generated by an algorithm, is it really mine? And if the sequence of words is arbirary, do they still have meaning? textjournal.scholasticahq.co…
Controversial opinion: queerbaiting allows for a broader mainstreaming of queerness that otherwise wouldn’t happen, especially teen characters. I’d rather have recognisably queer characters, even if not explicitly stated. It’s still representation & has value especially for teens
