My 4 year old boy roped my wife into buying him his own hammer at the farm store yesterday.
This evening I walked outside to him hammering my deck screws into a block of wood in the backyard (I bought a bucket of 1000 years ago and have no current plans for them).
My natural reaction is to tell him that those cost money so we shouldn’t waste them (a true statement and a lesson we’ll have to learn someday), but then I caught myself.
How proud would I be in a few years to have a boy under the age of 10 who can hammer a nail with a higher level of skill than most men these days? How about if my 4 year old could do that?
Well, that’s an easy question to answer.
So instead I took his picture and told him how cool he was.
He finished the day with 21 screws hammered home in that stump. He started and finished every one himself, and he only bent and broke 1 along the way.
Any chance you get to foster a love for hard work and masculine skills in your boys, take it.
$3.87 worth of screws will be nothing in comparison to a capable man to carry on your name.

Do you like saying you want to do the thing or do you actually want to do the thing?
A group of buddies and I signed up for an Idaho mountain 50K at the end of October. I hadn’t run farther than 5 miles in almost 2 years when I signed up.
The last couple weeks we’ve been dialing the mileage, primarily with a long run on Saturday mornings.
Well, when your 3rd child is born on Thursday afternoon, being gone for 2.5+ hours to run a day and half later becomes less feasible.
So, this week rather than just trashing the whole plan I split the long run up into 2 runs (1 Friday, 1 Saturday).
Ideal? No. Work still got done though. Mileage still increased over last week
I don’t do this stuff because I have some crazy level of discipline though. I do it because I’ve learned to enjoy it. I look forward to the effort.

Mountain miles today with newborn spit-up on my shirt, because boys learn by example and I’m looking forward to being ready when it’s time to start running mine up these trails.

So many men are winnable right now. The problem is they walk into churches looking for a brotherhood and marching orders and instead get dead fish handshakes from pastors and churchmen who they couldn’t imagine following into a sketchy gas station, much less a cosmic war.
If they’re presented with a church full of strong, capable, honorable men they’re typically happy to ask for marching orders, but those churches are few and far between.
The gnostic pietism will die, but it’s going to take time and a lot of work.

There are folks doing it. Look at folks like @StonecuttrStr and @jchasedavis, or @martycombs5. It’s not something that can be corrected overnight, but they’re doing the hard work.
Plus there are folks not online as well- that’s always a bigger number.

It's been a wild 48 hours in southern United Kingdom.
Foreign savage invaders "refused rescue" in the Channel (there are videos of this on the internet, it's a separate wild tale itself...).
Then, the government of the United Kingdom sent busses to Gosport to transport the invaders further inland to rape the native women and kill the men.
That then caused 2 things - protest by the natives and more foreign invaders attempting to invade and conquer across the Channel.
That then caused the UK government to send police to "protect" the savage foreign invader convoys they were operating.
If this doesn't cause a civil war in the UK then nothing will. Their "government" is openly conspiring against them, their children, and their future.
They've done so for decades but they used to pretend they didn't. They've stopped pretending.
Learn from their mistakes accordingly...

I saw another guy on IG post a workout that included this movement the other day and had to give it a shot.
It’s going to be sticking around.
This is one of the nastiest shoulder workouts I’ve ever tried, but it also forces you to use pretty much every other muscle group in the process.
I did a few down & backs at the end of my lift yesterday and was smoked.
100# bag was plenty this time. I may give the 150# a try next time.
