Vitalik announced yesterday that Snowmoon, his 32-chapter novel, was complete: nitter.net/VitalikButerin/status/… It’s set partly in the fictional country of Veridia, where the currency is zipcoin. A few recurring mechanics around it are: • payments can be fully anonymized • people burn zipcoins to make a message worth reading • zipcoins can be burned “at someone’s doorstep” as a costly signal • sales tax is routed to the government automatically in real time Several zipcoin/snowmoon tokens were deployed afterward on Pump/Robinhood, but they had none of the mechanics described in the novel. The Ethereum mainnet deployment by @zipcoincash 0x4E67DB19044549fF420860834c91b45BaD298722 actually implements several of the mechanics from the book: • Zip/Unzip: ZC can be deposited into a Privacy Pool and withdrawn to a fresh address using a zero-knowledge proof, breaking the public link between deposit and withdrawal. • Burn to Speak: ZC can be permanently burned to post a message, with larger burns ranked higher. This can also be done anonymously from a zipped note. • Doorstep: there’s a separate contract for burning ZC “at someone’s doorstep,” directly referencing the mechanic from the novel. • Treasury: 0.5% of trade volume is routed in ETH to the protocol treasury, which is the closest equivalent to the automated Veridian tax mechanism in the novel. Fixed 1B supply, no mint, no token owner. So while there are several tokens using the Zipcoin name, this is the one I’ve seen that actually tried to recreate the underlying mechanics described in Snowmoon rather than just the name/ticker.
