So basically, that's a very basic structural requirement for this kind of structure. Similar to the concept of a circular structural column having a min. of 6bars in it to make it code compliant.
Is how in this situation, in order to make the structure stable, 6 support's reqr'd
I see! Still, the dome itself isn't inherently the challenge. Thankfully, you also have been able to flag the real issue. The supports! The 4 flimsy stands may truly not be enough to keep the dome stable, I have an approach I can adopt to make it structurally stable whilst ...
.. whilst maintaining its aesthetics and functionality.
For a 12m diameter Dome structure, I don't think providing columns of 600mm dia would be an issue. That's actually me being a generous structural engineer. I'd prefer at least 6 of those though.🙂
I believe it's achievable
Post graduation depression is a real thing that many people experience. Especially in a place like Nigeria. Here are a few things you should consider as a young Nigerian trying to not fall for this trap!

“Engineers doing Architect’s job”
“Architects doing Engineer’s job”
All these talk end for small projects sha 🥱
Once you start handling reasonably complex projects with technicalities, you go understand why everybody suppose de him lane 😭😭😂
Lmao Wind tunnel testing by specialist dey hold our project, everybody sidown dey wait. E pass make structural engr to just put column and shear-walls. 💀
This has truly been a humbling and the most educative back and forth btw professionals in my entire career as a structural engineer.
No boring moment. Not even with the Wind Tunnel testing. Being the one that provided the local wind information to the aerodynamics specialists.👏🏾
Quoting again in hopes that someone will be saved.
You do not want to live in this house. Whatever choice or time you think you don’t have as you’re house hunting, believe meeeee. You’d regret it like mad🙏🏾
I would say the same as a Structural Engineer. I can already see obvious signs that the building isn't in good shape "Structurally". Those cracks are what we call "Structural Cracks". And they are most of the time, seriously and must be treated seriously! Cracks like this occur..
due to deflection of Structural Elements like the beams and Slabs.
And if the beams and Slabs can be giving way, which obviously they are, then how much more the critical elements like the Columns and foundation which can't be observed vaguely except through close-up inspection!
I know, you know we engineers naturally no too dey like complex geometry. Engineers like simple things, simple to design and execute!👌🏾
We understand the challenges it would create, not only for us designers, but majorly for the engineers and builders on the ground.
Trust me when I say we actually factored in and considered you guys in our design. Which is why the PT slab system was used.
Perhaps we should push the blame and also credit for this beauty yet complex piece to the architects. You guys are responsible for what we all dealt with.
Interesting enough, it was just last evening in the design office, I bumped into the design calculation note of the structure.😄
Projects like this do not only stretch technical imagination, they also stretch the creativity and practical ingenuity of those on site, ..
