This week at @HHSGov, I had the honor of providing remarks at U.S. Public Health Service Nutrition Seminar, where officers came together for a nutrition symposium focused on one of the nation’s most pressing public health challenges: the rising burden of nutrition-related chronic disease. The seminar gave officers an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of nutrition science, the evidence behind dietary guidance, and practical approaches to improving health across the populations and communities they serve. Equipping the Commissioned Corps with current, evidence-based nutrition knowledge can help translate science into prevention—supporting healthier lives and reducing the burden of chronic disease.

Thank you, @SecKennedy, for your leadership in empowering the Office of the Surgeon General to develop an advisory addressing the harms of screen use and helping protect the health and well-being of our nation’s children and adolescents.
We’re not just looking at how food affects our children. @SecKennedy: “We’re examining how screen use affects children including sleep, physical activity, social interactions, and development.” 📵

Today, Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos joined leaders at “Building a Healthier America: CMS ACCESS and a New Chapter in Health Innovation” to mark the launch of the CMS ACCESS Model. During Healthy Aging Month, Dr. Haridopolos highlighted how ACCESS can help people with Medicare better manage chronic conditions while preserving patient choice and the trusted relationship between patients and their clinicians. By focusing on meaningful health outcomes and supporting care beyond the doctor’s office, ACCESS can help older Americans live healthier, more independent lives.

Today at the Live Real Life Symposium, Dr. Stephanie Haridopolos announced the launch of a new children’s book, The Magic Tablet. Created as a companion to the Surgeon General’s Advisory on the harms of screen use, The Magic Tablet helps children discover all they may be missing when screens take center stage—and encourages kids and families to reconnect with the people, experiences, and moments that make real life meaningful. We encourage families everywhere to put down the screens, pick up the book, and read it together. 📖 Download your copy today at SurgeonGeneral.gov.

There is a particular kind of silence parents know well: a room full of children, together but apart, each looking down at a screen. Children will have all of adulthood to be digital citizens, but they only have one childhood. Let’s encourage them to LIVE REAL LIFE. 📵
