The child rescued by #surrogate mother McKenna West has been handed over to the genetic parents who wanted him dead.
All the adults have been able to tell their story, make their case, appeal to the courts.
When Baby Rumi is old enough to tell his own story, I wonder if it will sound like this. My latest @WNGdotorg:

Surrogacy and human trafficking concerns cannot be ignored.
When women are recruited because of poverty, when brokers profit from pregnancies, when contracts control women’s bodies, and when babies are transferred through payment and legal arrangements, we must ask hard questions.
Not every surrogacy arrangement is legally classified as trafficking. But commercial surrogacy can create conditions where trafficking-like exploitation flourishes.
Human rights should not stop at the fertility clinic door.

The trial of the Mediterranean Fertility Institute opens on 14 October in Chania, Crete: 98 women exploited as surrogate mothers, 71 subjected to egg extraction, 26 defendants, 17 charges including participation in a criminal organisation and human trafficking.
It was Greece's largest surrogacy provider, licensed and supervised, and the trafficking happened inside that legal framework. Regulation did not prevent it; it built the infrastructure for it.
With To Mov and our partners, CIAMS demands one thing: that this trial proceed on 14 October and not be postponed.
In Greece, trafficking trials are routinely delayed for years until dispersed migrant witnesses can no longer testify. Every adjournment is a step toward impunity.

Surrogate pregnancies are 3x higher risk for severe complications inc sepsis, pre-eclampsia and postpartum haemorrhage.
Surrogate babies are often born at low birth weight, very premature and miscarriage is common.
