As a man, I am ashamed. I am enraged. And I feel a deep sense of guilt.
Hina Javed’s brutal killing is not just a crime against one woman; it is a failure of the society and men who have been entrusted to protect, respect and stand up for women. Islam teaches us that women are an amanat, and that strength comes with responsibility, NOT violence, cruelty or domination. If a woman cannot feel safe in her own home, with the man who vowed to protect her, then we must ask ourselves what kind of men we have become.
Her family deserves answers. And every woman deserves to know that the law will stand between her and those who seek to harm her. As men, we must do better. As parents we must raise our sons better. As a state, we must do better. And as a society, we must stop failing our women.
