TAHC and USDA began conducting mandatory scrapie surveillance. Since 2002, the number of sheep found positive for scrapie in the United States has decreased dramatically, and no new positive flocks have been confirmed in Texas since 2016.

What’s the difference between an Infested Zone and an Adjacent Surveillance Zone?
🟡An Infested Zone surrounds a NWS case, and movement restrictions apply.
🔵Adjacent surveillance zones extend even further, and establish areas of additional monitoring.
Both help contain NWS.

9/21: NWS Infested Zone 04C in Edwards, Sutton, and Val Verde counties has been modified and reduced in size. Portions of the zone in these counties have met the criteria for release from movement restrictions, while others remain.
