How does the NRM Work?⁠ Referral: First responders (such as police, NGOs, and local authorities) refer potential victims to the NRM. Adults must give consent, but children are automatically included.⁠ ⁠

Reasonable Grounds Decision: Within five working days, the Home Office assesses whether there are reasonable grounds to believe the person is a victim. If confirmed, they receive at least 30 days of support, including safe housing, legal aid and medical care.⁠

Conclusive Grounds Decision: After further investigation, a final decision is made. If positive, victims may receive ongoing support and even discretionary leave to remain in the UK if needed for their recovery or to assist with law enforcement efforts.⁠
