So.. a known Hamas operative named Mohammed Naim applied for asylum in the UK, was granted indefinite leave to remain, gained British citizenship, changed his name numerous times, proceeded to orchestrate acts of terrorism, and was then granted 100 years of anonymity. And we don't know the name of any minister, caseworker, lawyer, special unit, or tribunal judge who advanced his case, carried out vetting, or made any of these decisions. And we only know about him now because of the determination of an intrepid journalist and newspaper. Why hasn't he been stripped of his British citizenship and deported? Why are we giving sanctuary to known terrorists? Why are we protecting their identities for a century? Are we mad? This is not a conspiracy with no names, so who exactly is responsible?

Two tier justice.

Yet a local resident in the ward I represent in Portsmouth, Del Somerville, is now serving 2 years behind bars for swearing and throwing a plastic bottle in the direction of police.

Today the PM of Mauritius confirmed to his Cabinet that Andy Burnham reaffirmed Labour's commitment to surrender the Chagos Islands and pay Mauritius billions to do so. He also confirmed that the National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell - a man who operates in secret and with no public accountability - is meeting him shortly. We need Labour to come clean on what these negotiations will cover, if Labour will be paying Mauritius while President Trump objects, and what their plan is. The best thing to do is tear up the surrender treaty, but white flag waving Burnham won't do this.

In the meantime the UK needs to keep relations with Mauritius going. The island nation faces a budget deficit and needed the £165 million a year it would have got from Britain over the next three years if the deal had gone through
Even if the UK does not directly offer Mauritius more money, there are ways it could help it access financing such as through British International Investment, a development finance institution controlled by the government, and other international climate financing schemes
