Visitamos las instalaciones de la Unidad Rufe H. Jordan del Departamento de Justicia Criminal de Texas (@TDCJ), con el propósito de conocer de primera mano las condiciones y los programas que se desarrollan en beneficio de la población mexicana que cumple sentencia en dicha unidad, así como dar seguimiento al respeto de sus derechos, el debido proceso y que las condiciones de internamiento sean humanas y dignas. Durante el recorrido, visitamos las áreas comunes, dormitorios, comedor, cocina, áreas de esparcimiento, el área de visitas, los salones de clases y la capilla. Como parte de la visita, el grupo musical de la capilla ofreció una emotiva interpretación para los representantes del Consulado. Agradecemos al Warden Jaime Villegas y al Assistant Warden Leeroy Cano por las atenciones brindadas y la apertura para realizar este recorrido. Jordan Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to gain firsthand insight into the conditions and programs available to Mexican nationals serving sentences at the facility, while also following up on the protection of their rights, due process, and ensuring that their conditions of confinement are humane and dignified. During the visit, we toured the facility’s common areas, housing units, dining hall, kitchen, recreation areas, visitation center, classrooms, and chapel. As part of the visit, the chapel’s music group offered a heartfelt performance for the Consulate’s delegation. We extend our sincere appreciation to Warden Jaime Villegas and Assistant Warden Leeroy Cano for their warm welcome and for facilitating this visit. We also thank the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Dr. Michael E. Rutledge, who accompanied the Consulate’s delegation during visits to several correctional facilities across the state. These visits strengthen institutional cooperation and reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Mexico, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate of Mexico in Albuquerque, to safeguarding the well-being, rights, and access to consular assistance of Mexican nationals deprived of their liberty abroad.

In case you missed it, the @TDCJ hosted an inaugural Daddy-Daughter Dance and Dinner on April 25 at the Wainwright Unit in Lovelady, Texas, transforming the gymnasium into a shimmering ballroom.⁣ ⁣ We were thrilled to be a part of this collaboration alongside Windham School District and Therapon Theological Seminary and Bible College.⁣ ⁣ The fathers participating in the event are part of Windham’s Family Literacy program, a three-phase program designed to strengthen family engagement among parents and caregivers, supporting academic and emotional growth for both parents and children.⁣ ⁣ Staff and volunteers rolled out the red carpet, balloons, games, a photo booth, and a cookie-decorating station, with cookies made by Lee College’s Culinary Arts class at Wainwright. ⁣ ⁣ Prison Fellowship Senior Vice President of Correctional Programs Cody Wilde says, “We are grateful to the TDCJ for their leadership and for trusting us to serve alongside them to make this Daddy-Daughter event so impactful.
