AN OPEN LETTER TO ELON MUSK, FROM AN ORDINARY NEPALI Dear @ElonMusk, You are building rockets to take humanity to Mars, advancing AI and robotics, connecting the world, and thinking about the future of human civilisation. Today, I am writing from Nepal, where our question about humanity's future is painfully immediate. How do we survive what is happening to our mountains? On August 26, a catastrophic glacier collapse sent ice, rock, mud and water through the Himalayan region. More than 1,200 lives have been lost, thousands remain missing, families have been displaced, and homes, roads, bridges and hydropower infrastructure have been destroyed. Nepal is now facing billions of dollars in losses and reconstruction. Yet Nepal contributes only around 0.1% of global greenhouse-gas emissions. That is the painful inequality of climate change: Those who contributed least can end up paying one of the highest prices. I am not writing to blame you for this disaster. In fact, Tesla and many of your ventures have challenged old industries and pushed cleaner technologies forward. I am writing because you have something very few people in human history have had at this scale: the resources, technology, influence and ability to move the world when you choose to. So, Mr. Musk, I respectfully ask you to consider something bigger than disaster relief. Lead a $1 Billion Nepal Reconstruction & Himalayan Resilience Challenge. Start by committing $100 million of your own wealth and invite the world's billionaires, technology companies, foundations and innovators to join you. Let it help rebuild the communities, homes and critical infrastructure Nepal has lost. But let it also build something for the next generation: better Himalayan monitoring, disaster prediction and early warning; resilient infrastructure; scientific research; mapping; communications; emergency-response technology; drones, AI and other solutions that can save lives before the next disaster becomes a tragedy. Make it a transparent, Nepal-led, globally supported initiative, working with the best scientists, institutions and technologies from Nepal and around the world. Not simply aid after people die. Investment so fewer people have to die next time. Nepal's mountains are not important only to Nepal. The Himalayan system feeds rivers, ecosystems and communities across Asia. What we learn here could ultimately protect millions far beyond our borders. You have repeatedly challenged humanity to think bigger. So today, from a small country in the Himalayas, we are asking you to do the same. You are investing extraordinary resources to help humanity build a future on Mars. Would you also help protect the future of people living at the roof of Earth? This is not about sympathy for Nepal. It is about climate justice, human responsibility and what extraordinary wealth can achieve when matched with extraordinary purpose. Mr. Musk, Will you lead? We all are looking forward your response 🙏.

Do some good and donate to provide some relief in Nepal. We tried to make it as easy as possible.
Today we're launching a crypto campaign to support the people of Nepal and contribute to the Government of Nepal's Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. To help, donate at NepalRelief.org. Stablecoins work best when money has to move fast to people who need it. While many others collected donations for Nepal in a more traditional sense, we built a path that leverages blockchain technology that lands as local currency in the government's relief fund. The campaign is powered by Polygon's Open Money Stack, Coinme, and @CrossRiverBank. Blockchain for Impact has already pledged $100,000. No one's pain matters more because of geography. But some tragedies just hit differently when they touch a place that's part of your own story, and Nepal has always felt close to home for me. I was born in the Kumaon belt of Uttarakhand, India, right alongside Nepal, and my maternal family comes from that same region. Communities on both sides of the border have been connected for generations, through family, culture, faith, food, trade and everyday life. India and Nepal have what we often call "Roti-Beti ka rishta," ties of family and shared life that run far deeper than a line on a map, and Prime Minister Modi, speaking recently about Nepal, called its people our brothers and sisters. I want to do my small part to stand with them, and I hope you'll join me. This campaign lets people around the world contribute in stablecoins to support relief and rebuilding efforts in Nepal.

For the first time, anyone holding crypto anywhere in the world can donate directly to Nepal's Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund. Site: nepalrelief.org/ The last few weeks have been devastating. The scale of what my country lost is still being counted, and a lot of people are still without homes. What kept happening through all of it was people across crypto reaching out, asking where they could send money. I did not have a good answer for them. There were places collecting, but no way to take crypto and actually get it into the government's relief fund as rupees, and it kept eating at me that the will to help was there and the rails were not. So I started building for it. Once word got out, teams and ecosystems started reaching out wanting to help, and it turned out everyone was sitting on the same problem. Together we could do it at a scale none of us could alone. @solana , the ecosystem I work in and represent here, has already contributed $167,000 through the pfp takeover. Now it is open to everyone. Any token, any chain, individuals or foundations. It moves in crypto and lands as local currency in the relief fund. This is the future of finance. This is what stablecoins were built for. Money getting to people while it still counts. Nepal is home. Doing this alongside fellow Nepalis and getting to give something back to our own country is a kind of pride nothing else comes close to. @SuperteamNPL and I are proud that we could help make this happen, and I hope you join in.

DEAR CRYPTO, LETS SHOW THE WORLD WHAT WE ARE MADE OF. DONATE NOW. The Nepal floods have been devastating, 5,083 people are still missing but the search is still on, and it needs your help. This morning, two workers were pulled out of a hydropower tunnel after nine days underground. Imagine being their family yesterday, and now imagine being one of the thousands of families tonight who are still waiting. Every drop counts, and you can help directly. Nepalrelief.org Now let me get a bit more personal, I wrote this in my journal last week: “My country was ravaged by what can only be described as an apocalyptic flood meets earthquake meets tsunami. It feels very strange being so far from home. It’s hard to think of anything that can even compare in the slightest to what those who perished or witnessed the floods felt; because for that, there is NO precedent, there are no previous videos of such things happening, there are almost no warning signs. It just happened, on a quiet morning, suddenly gargantuan waves filled with tons of debris moving at 200mph overtook entire villages, toppled entire buildings..and, well you’ve seen the footage. And all I can think of is WTF are we doing? My industry speaks of millions and billions in revenue and hundreds of thousands in paper profits; but the beauty of all of that is that it is powered by a global financial network; one that literally just works and can genuinely help the world. I’m also sat here thinking who the FUCK cares about all the bullshit we argue about everyday? Solana donated 160k through a channel made by Polygon, and it just worked. Chains battling pseudo religious battles while thousands have been entirely displaced feels so inconsequential. We ask which chain will win, but we never ask what will the world win if one does? We conveniently say we are boosting economic freedom but what about when it matters most? Why not reframe progress from real world outcomes instead of charts? Why not become the #1 vessel for relief on any calamity in the world? Why are we simply optimizing to please tech narratives? What about impact we can give to the world TODAY? We have everything it takes, we just need to do it.” Well, this is an attempted answer to most of those questions: Nepalrelief.org Special thanks to @sandeepnailwal, @Mudit__Gupta, @Ronak0010, @DianaChimes, @vibhu, and countless others who have spent nights and weekends to help Nepal. And a major h/t to @0xPolygon

Big props to Anderson Cooper for keeping Nepal in the spotlight. It's important for the media to not move on. I know Nepal doesn't normally get headlines, but this is an enormous tragedy. The rescue is still underway. The recovery is only just beginning. Nepal needs support, and that comes from coverage. Thank you Anderson
