In honor of the high school season starting soon, I will be tweeting some of the top teams I am looking forward to watching/following this upcoming season statewide. These are not necessarily ranked a certain way.

Team #27: Toledo Central Catholic (@basketball_cchs) 2025-26 record: 23-4 Central Catholic made a run to the State Semifinals in Division III and fell in OT to eventual State champ Trotwood. TCC will have a new coach at the helm and have big shoes to fill.

The Irish lost just two games in Ohio last year, but must replace multiple starters, including Manny Johnson who is now at Toledo. ‘27 Cayden Kynard (@CaydenKynard) and several other 2027s will be looked to to fill their voids.

Team #26: Centerville (@ElksBasketball) 2025-26 record: 18-7 Another year and another District title for Centerville last season as they advanced to the Regional Semifinals before falling to Pick Central.

The Elks did not have any seniors a year ago, but lose the Sam brothers to transfer. ‘27s Ty Rohrer (@TyRohrer21), Sam Keely (@sam_keely2), and Spencer Maxwell (@_spencermaxwell) all return and give Centerville plenty of guard play and shot making across the floor.

Team #25: Cedarville (@CedarvilleIndi2) 2025-26 record: 21-4 The Indians were one of the best teams in SW Ohio in Division VII last year thanks in part to the addition of ‘28 Brayden Trimbach (@braydentrim) from Yellow Springs.

Now a year older and a year acclimated, Trimbach will look to get Cedarville back in the Regionals after a several year hiatus for the program.

Team #24: Canton McKinley (@Pupsbasketball) 2025-26 record: 19-5 McKinley looked like a contender out of NE Ohio last year before being knocked out in the District Finals. Graduation and some transfers hit the Bulldogs hard as they now look to regroup and repeat.

‘27 Ed Webster has impressed me previously with All Ohio Red and will now have to help fill the voids lost to graduation and from Jamar Keyes Jr’s transfer. While it may be difficult to replicate 19 wins, I have no doubt McKinley will compete within the Federal League this year.

Team #23: Canton Central Catholic 2025-26 record- 15-12 CCC played a difficult schedule a year ago which is why they came away with 12 losses. But the Crusaders still reached the Regional Finals before running into Lutheran East.

With Lutheran East moving to Division I, it opens the door for the Crusaders to finally claim a Regional title. ‘27 Will Minor will need to improve on his stats to do so. Their guard play is my biggest question mark with the loss of Luke and Lance Vlacovsky the past 2 years.
107
Team #22: Canfield (@CanfieldBball) 2025-26 record- 22-4 The Cardinals again reached the Regional Semifinals last season and have been one of the more slept on teams IMO in Division IV.

‘27 Jace Ricardo (@jacericcardo24) is poised for a huge senior year and will be the engine that runs Canfield’s season. The Cardinals have been on the doorstep of the Regional Finals and with several other 2027 returnees, could finally get to Dayton for the first time since 1953.

Team #21: Tiffin Calvert (@CalvertAthletic) 2025-26 record- 17-8 Calvert took a slight drop after a 20-win season in 2025. Come tournament, they beat Old Fort after losing twice in the regular season and advanced to the Regional Semifinals.

‘27 Grady Otterbacher (@_Grady4) will be a big reason for Calvert to return to Regionals yet again.

Team #20: Caledonia River Valley (@RVHS_Vikings) 2025-26 record- 20-6 The Vikings reached the Regionals for the second straight year last season and have their best player returning in ‘27 Carter Myers (@Carter_Myers1).

Assuming Myers plays this season, the Vikings will be considered one of the favorites out of Central Ohio in Division IV. Is this the year they finally make it to Dayton?

‘28 Ice Taylor (@theeiceshow) joins from Hawken and brings all-around talent in the backcourt. ‘27 Jayden Nellemsbey (@Jaynelly_2027) gives them wing depth and several other returning players has Brush looking solid.

With the Arcs being a Division III team, is there enough talent in Lyndhurst for them to get to a District title in a competitive NE District?
39
Now the Blue Devils will be without Drexler and Sean Barnett in their backcourt. The good news? ‘28 Drew Matus and ‘27 Adin Evert (@AD1N24) are returning starters and impressed me during the season.

If Brunswick wants to continue with their successes, they will need Matus and their guards to fill the scoring being lost with Drexler/Barnett’s departure.
