This Mean Machines Sega magazine clipping perfectly demonstrates Core Design's approach to game creation. The studio seemingly sent them a Tutankhamun sarcophagus image from their reference book. Although it wasn't added to the game, it sheds light on artists' true inspirations.

The texture of cat statues in TRI Gold is based on a real vintage souvenir — «The Sacred Bast Cat» figurine from the «Treasures of Tutankhamun» collection. It was released by Franklin Mint in 1989, and the photo itself was apparently taken by developers from the internet.

For TRIV, Core Design took a low-poly 3D model of Khafre's statue with the same relief, ported it, and used it in several artworks. As a classic sample, it was originally included in Autodesk 3ds Max used by the developers at the time. Check it out here: tinyurl.com/ycy2am

The sarcophagus that can be found in the City of Khamoon has a real prototype. Developers recreated the inner coffin of priest Montu Besenmut. This early 26th Dynasty Egyptian artifact (c. 650 BC, Thebes) is made of painted wood. The original is 1.88 m tall.

The Egyptian levels in TRI feature a senet board. Four such boards were found in Tutankhamun's tomb. The squares of the most exquisite example are crafted from ivory and ebony. The piece also features a sliding drawer for tokens, while its elegant legs are carved as animal paws.
