NEW: Miami (OH), James Madison and UConn have contacted the American Conference about joining the league, @Brett_McMurphy and @PeteNakos report.
Despite overtures from those three schools the conference is not expanding at this time.

According to Google, over 4 million people live within an hour of San Marcos. When I lived in Selma I could get there in about 30 minutes and my parents in Round Rock could probably make it in 45. There is a reason San Marcos almost got an NFL team. An NHL team would be cool.
Source familiar w/ the San Antonio sports market says the backing of SA for potential NHL expansion to Austin isn’t surprising.
Speculation is they’re hoping for an arena in San Marcos should Austin be awarded the expansion.
“It’s a lot of talk but I don’t see it happening.”
