I see a Trump victory 291 to 247, even though I don’t want Trump to win. Harris’s polling averages are worse than Clinton’s and I haven’t heard compelling evidence that the 2016 or 2020 polling problems have been fixed.

I personally think it’s outrageous watching everyone obsess over rare pathogenic threats that are treatable & unlikely to spread, while COMPLETELY ignoring the last 6 years of record communicable disease, record opportunistic pathogens, record disability, & record death.

A friend's daughter caught Covid then flu at the start of university a year ago, and her health took such a hit that she had to drop out, and is now restarting her course. A year later, and she's been ill in bed with Covid for her first two weeks back in uni halls. 😥

COVID also causes lymphocytopenia: deficiency of T and B cells. This is different than the lymphocytopenia HIV causes, which is strictly CD4 deficiency. My CD4 T cells and CD19 B cells became deficient after COVID. They've been restored by mAbs and antivirals, but treatment has to be ongoing, or I relapse. I call this COVID Acquired Immune Deficiency, or CoV-AIDS. I've had Long Covid since March 2020. Likely this includes chronic infection. Lymphocytopenia was noted on my first ER visit, about 3 weeks into my first COVID infection. I did not have T or B cell deficiency prior to COVID.

Again, COVID is not AIDS. But the shared patterns of T cell exhaustion, viral persistence, chronic inflammation are very real, and they're why HIV immunologists are now actively studying Long COVID. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3774…

Men seem to think rape only happens when it’s violent stranger in a dark alley. Stranger rape is a small percentage of sexual assault. It’s usually a friend, spouse, teacher, pastor or boss. It’s someone you trust. It happens in what you thought was a “safe” environment.

The irony is that the genocidal Israeli settler-colonial project in Palestine is itself antisemitic. It uses Judaism to legitimize Zionist interests and advance global capital and organized crime.
THIS IS HUGE🚨 ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt announced that from now on every complaint of antisemitism online submitted to the ADL is instantly scanned by AI for a potential lawsuit, then fed to a network of 50,000 lawyers.

For the last 3 days the Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature anomaly has been hodling steady in record territory at about 3.10°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, well ahead of the previous record anomaly of 3.03°C set on November 19, 2015. The Climate 8-Ball thinks everything is fine.

When you catch COVID, the virus shows up in your mouth and throat first. The nose lags by two to three days. An important study tracked all three sites daily in sixteen people from the very start of infection - and found something unexpected in how the mucosa fights back🧵

Talk to your boys about the RAMPANT misogyny that is being pumped out across social media & the internet at a rapid pace. It’s a SPRAWLING op, & the minds of the next generation are at stake. It’s not going to stop. We can’t ignore it, we have to confront it & discuss it.

This is a special graph we only post periodically. It shows 2 things that have considerable implications. 1) Transmission has been lower than anticipated since December, and *only* since December. It's a recent phenomenon, not a long-term trend. WastewaterSCAN has poor longitudinal standardization so sometimes people mistakenly believe waves are getting smaller and smaller (or they say this because their listserv subscribers like to hear it). CDC and Biobot make very long-term data difficult to find. On the PMC 13-wave graph (which integrates long-term CDC and Biobot data, some of which is measured weekly by hand!), wave height gets smaller, but the waves are wider (hard to perceive visually). The take-home is we're in a very weird place in the pandemic, not a trend, but either an aberration or shift. 2) Cumulative levels for the current year (Y7) closely resemble that of Year 2. This is where the debate of aberration vs shift gets interesting. If we are in an aberration of lower than typical transmission, that means many people are walking around with limited short-term infection-derived immunity, and most people are not recently boosted. That would be a tinder box for a saltation variant (MANY variants are circulating), and put us on that scary Y2 path. The alternative is that this is not an aberration but a more meaningful shift, some population-level immunity building through a combination of boosters, infection history, and the most vulnerable dying (social murder), meaning time between infection starting to increase. These divergent hypotheses are the difference between 150 million vs 325 million infections for Y7. If I were a gambler, I'd bet about 200 million. However, you can see the uncertainty. This is a time like no other to monitor the data closely. The good news is that wastewater monitoring is not going away. PMC will keep posting. Retired NASA scientist, Dr. Eastman at WHN (@jlerollblues), is close to having localized *forecasts* too. On Instagram, a new entrant is integrating different data sources with other methodologies. @CyFi10, @amethystarlight, and @CovidDataReport post nuanced updates frequently. My advice would be to talk to the people who will listen and remember that much more important than understanding the risk is knowing you can do something about it. Boosting is the easiest intervention. If someone will mask, teach them how to properly fit their nose wire and do a seal check, get them to upgrade from a KN95 with cheek and chin gaps to an N95 like 3M Aura or 3M VFlex in the riskiest or socially easiest contexts. Easier said than done, but if that pessimistic scenario plays out, they may be ready to listen.
PMC COVlD Update, Sep 21, 2026 (US) 🔥13th COVlD wave 🔥40 states/territories with outbreaks (see Alt text) 🔥3.8 million estimated weekly infections 🔥Outbreaks in NYC 🔥Extremely high levels on the Big Island of HI Mask up and get boosted. 🧵THREAD (1/4)

Given the huge surge everywhere, I decided to get my Nuvaxovid today instead of mid-October as I usually do. The experience at CVS didn’t disappoint. No masks, hacking everywhere, & the “nurse” giving the shots was maskless. I asked her to put one on. She came back with a baggy blue, so I offered her a sealed N95. She took it, albeit with attitude ofc. Get your vaccines, & MASK UP!
