AFP Chief Visits Lumbia Air Base, Highlights Continuing Development
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete underscored the importance of the continuing development of Lumbia Air Base in Cagayan de Oro City during his visit on September 26, 2026.
General Nafarrete highlighted the relocation and integration of the 15th Strike Wing and the 590th Air Base Group, Philippine Air Force noting that the development of the base must go beyond infrastructure; he also conferred military awards on deserving personnel in recognition of their service and contributions.
“That is how I want us to look at Lumbia—not simply in terms of what has been constructed, but in terms of what the base allows our forces to do,” General Nafarrete said, emphasizing that the base’s development must remain anchored on its operational capabilities.
The concerned units were directed to sustain the progress already achieved, address remaining requirements, and elevate matters requiring action from higher headquarters, stressing that the objective is not simply to complete Lumbia Air Base but to make it ready to support AFP forces.

AFP Advances Leadership Continuity with Confirmation of 35 Senior Officers
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) strengthened its senior leadership following the Commission on Appointments’ confirmation of the ad interim appointments of 35 senior officers on September 25 at the Senate of the Philippines in Pasay City.
Led by Lieutenant General Michael G. Logico PA, the confirmed officers comprise 14 from the Philippine Army, eight (8) from the Philippine Air Force, seven (7) from the Philippine Navy, three (3) from the Philippine Marine Corps, and three (3) from the Technical and Administrative Services.
The confirmation reinforces the AFP’s leadership continuity and supports its efforts to enhance joint force readiness, advance professional military development, and fulfill its mandate to safeguard national security and protect the Filipino people.

AFP Leadership Highlights Importance of Military Medical Services
General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), underscored the importance of military medical services during his official visit to the Office of the Surgeon General at Camp Aguinaldo on September 25.
The Chief of Staff was received and assisted by Brigadier General Fatima Claire S. Navarro MC, The Surgeon General, AFP, together with senior AFP officers. The visit provided an opportunity for the AFP leadership to engage with the Office of the Surgeon General, underscoring the importance of military medical services in supporting the health and well-being of AFP personnel.
The engagement also highlighted the continuing coordination between the AFP leadership and its medical service in carrying out its mandate to provide responsive and effective healthcare support to the Armed Forces.

AFP Hosts COA Entrance Conference for 2026 Audit
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) hosted the Commission on Audit (COA) for the 2026 COA Entrance Conference on September 17 here, marking the formal commencement of the annual audit engagement and reaffirming the AFP’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound financial management.
The conference was presided over by AFP Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete and Ms. Norina Rose L. Yao, OIC-Supervising Auditor, Audit Group F-GHQ, AFP. During the conference, the COA audit team presented the objectives, scope and timeline of the 2026 audit, as well as the documentary requirements and records to be examined during the review.
In his message, General Nafarrete underscored the AFP’s responsibility as steward of the resources entrusted by the Filipino people. “Every peso entrusted to the AFP represents the trust of the Filipino people. We are accountable not only for complying with the rules that govern the use of public funds, but for ensuring that every resource is used responsibly and for the purposes for which they were provided,” he said.
Through its continued engagement with COA, the AFP reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance in the stewardship of the Filipino people’s resources.

The mission aims to strengthen regional resilience, enhance disaster preparedness and interoperability, and foster enduring partnerships through humanitarian assistance, medical and engineering engagements, and civil-military cooperation.

AFP Strengthens Security Oversight for 2026 BARMM Parliamentary Elections
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Antonio G. Nafarrete, together with senior AFP officers, conducted continuous monitoring of the 2026 Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections at Camp Siongco in Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao del Norte, on September 15.
The AFP leadership also held a meeting with officials of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU) led by Secretary Mel Senen S. Sarmiento and participated in a press conference to discuss security preparations and the AFP’s support for the elections.
Joining General Nafarrete were Lieutenant General Donald M. Gumiran, Commanding General of the Philippine Army; Lieutenant General Adonis Ariel G. Orio, Commander of the Eastern Mindanao Command (EASTMINCOM); Major General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM); and Major General Elmer B. Suderio, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3.
Their presence underscored the AFP leadership’s close coordination and continued oversight of security operations aimed at supporting a peaceful, secure, and orderly conduct of the BARMM Parliamentary Elections.

AFP Salutes GHQ and HSC Commander’s Service, Welcomes New Leadership

Laniog PA for his decades of dedicated and exemplary service to the nation during a joint Retirement and Change of Command Ceremony of the General Headquarters and Headquarters Service Command (GHQ&HSC), on September 14, here.
AFP Vice Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Rommel P. Roldan presided over the joint ceremony, recognizing BGen Laniog’s contributions and steadfast commitment to duty throughout his military career. His retirement marks the culmination of years of service dedicated to the AFP’s mission and the Filipino people.
The ceremony also formally marked the transition of leadership, with Colonel Joel A. Lobitaña PA assuming the post as Acting Commander of the GHQ&HSC. The transition in leadership reflects the AFP’s commitment to maintaining operational effectiveness and a seamless transfer of responsibility across its commands.
The AFP expressed its appreciation to BGen Laniog for his honorable service and welcomed Colonel Lobitaña as he takes on his new responsibility. The joint ceremony highlighted the enduring values of duty, leadership, and continuity that remain at the heart of the AFP’s service to the nation.

AFP Chief checks election security efforts in Central Mindanao
General Antonio G. Nafarrete PA, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) visited two Army brigades in Central Mindanao on September 13 to check their election security preparations for the first Bangsamoro Parliamentary Election (BPE) 2026.
General Nafarrete visited the headquarters of the 1st Mechanized Infantry “Maaasahan” Brigade in Tacurong City and the 601st Infantry “Unifier” Brigade in Maguindanao del Sur. The respective brigade commanders, Brigadier General Omar V. Orozco and Brigadier General Gremel B. Brual, briefed the Chief of Staff on the security situation, troop deployments, coordination with partner agencies, and contingency measures.
General Nafarrete directed troops to help maintain a secure environment where voters can exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation. He also reminded that AFP personnel must remain non-partisan and perform their election duties with integrity.
The visit underscored the AFP’s commitment to a safe, peaceful, orderly, and credible BPE 2026. The AFP continues to work with the Commission on Elections, the Philippine National Police, local government units, and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security in the Bangsamoro region following the elections.///
