Sure but it was an opinion about two mainstream groups. If an underground artist say Cole is better than Kendrick I’m not gon use the fact that he’s underground against him in that matter because if I didn’t know he was underground that statement would still be regular.

Exactly all forms of media have been fragmented, that’s when we still lived in a mono cultural environment. There’s songs on the top 40 that I’m not even aware of but that wouldn’t be the case, like 10-15 years ago. That’s how much things have changed.

Social media? Take a look at the bigger picture. When all of those guys started bubbling Blockbuster still existed, cable TV was the main source for television, most people still bought CDs, etc etc. Sources of entertainment weren't anywhere near as diverse as it is now.
I keep saying with how social media has changed it might be damn near impossible to break through, not to mention major labels aren’t in studying in hip hop. Pop, Latin, and County are looking like they will have their time to dominate the mainstream.

The big three, Future, and to a lesser extent ASAP Tyler etc. They benefitted from the blog and physical era where you needed an organic fan base. It's almost impossible to replicate that now
