I hope this inspires someone today....
They counted me out a long time ago.
They saw my addiction. They saw my involvement in the criminal justice system. They saw my past, and decided that was my future.
They were wrong.
I’m coming up on 14 years sober, and 14 years out of the criminal justice system.
They said I’d never get a job with the health authority because I didn’t have a master’s degree.
Today, I work for the health authority.
They said I’d never be allowed into schools to talk to kids about gangs, addiction, and prevention.
I’ve now shared my journey in more than 250 schools.
They said I’d never become a public speaker.
Today, I speak around the world about overcoming challenges, addiction, recovery, and hope.
They said I’d never be a productive member of society.
Today, I am.
People will judge you by the worst chapter of your life and assume they already know how your story ends.
They don’t know anything.
This is for anyone trying to change their lives:
Never let someone else’s opinion of who you were become the limit on who you can become.
People can change, lives can change, and your past does not get to decide your future.
I’m living proof! 💪
