She said a man posing as a federal agent emailed her in August, claimed her Social Security information and her husband’s had been compromised, and told her to buy $25,000 in gift cards and convert about $185,000 into gold bars. On September 10 — the same day Friendswood detectives were in California making arrests in a related gold-scam case — she met a courier she thought was a federal agent and handed over the gold. Investigators identified Singh on September 16. With Meadows Place police, they found him in Fort Bend County. The Galveston County District Attorney’s Office accepted a first-degree felony charge of theft of property valued at $150,000 to $300,000 with an elderly-victim enhancement. Bond was set at $5 million. An immigration detainer was also placed. Police believe Singh has met multiple Houston-area victims in the past four weeks. 🚨 Detectives Link Austin And Bastrop Homicides To Same Suspect 🚨 Austin / Bastrop, TX — The Austin Police Department and the Bastrop Police Department are investigating two connected homicides involving two women in Austin and Bastrop. According to a Sept. 17 joint release, on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2026, 22-year-old Manuel Salgado Vasquez of Cedar Creek met his former girlfriend, 20-year-old Mariana Montoya Palacios, at Fisherman’s Park in Bastrop. Police said Salgado shot Palacios at close range, fatally striking her, then shot himself. Bastrop officers found Salgado suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to a hospital. Palacios was pronounced deceased at the scene. Salgado later died from his injuries on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 2:58 p.m. That same Tuesday morning at about 8:26 a.m., Austin officers responded to a welfare check at 744 W. William Cannon Drive for 27-year-old Desiree Gauna after a family member reported being unable to reach her. Officers found Gauna deceased with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased at 8:49 a.m. APD Homicide detectives said Gauna had been living with Salgado and had stopped communicating with others on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13. Salgado did not go into work that Sunday, and his whereabouts remained unknown into Wednesday, Sept. 16. A check of his vehicle found it at a wrecker yard in Bastrop. Investigators determined Salgado had been romantically involved with both women. Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe Salgado was responsible for both women’s deaths. 🔒 Cedar Park Detectives Arrest Edzaven Green in Temple on a Prohibited Weapons Warrant 🚔 Temple, TX — Cedar Park detectives arrested Edzaven Green of Temple on Wednesday after a July 12 pursuit in Cedar Park. Police said a passenger threw a Glock with a machinegun conversion device from a vehicle, then ran toward Brushy Creek. Officers recovered the gun and later identified Green. A third-degree felony warrant was issued for prohibited weapons (machine guns). On September 16, Cedar Park detectives worked with Temple’s Violent Crimes Unit. About 4 p.m., they saw Green get into a vehicle with several other people. Temple police stopped the car. Three passengers ran. All three were taken into custody, including Green.
