The Text That no Roman Catholic Wants You to Read
"As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”
He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
Jesus had at least three choices here.
1. He could agree, and then add that those who hear the word of God and obey it are blessed as well.
2. He could agree, and then instruct us to pray to her, bow before statues of her, and carry beads so we could repeat prayers to her.
However, He did none of that. With His use of the word, "rather" He corrected/rebuked the woman.
At the one moment most ripe for Him to tell us to honor Mary with worship or special devotion—He did the opposite.
