Ipswich are 11th, the highest-placed team Everton have faced so far. Obviously early days, but I’m still not convinced Everton have gotten a result against a genuinely good side yet. Certainly no one in form.

James makes a good point - but there's a wider one. I always see things like Everton (could be any English team) have 9 pts from 5, but rarely any mention of quality of opponents. Is there a reason? Feel like it's commonplace in the US to talk about strength of schedule.

Everton are fifth and still unbeaten after beating Ipswich 1-0. It wasn’t especially convincing, but Barry took his chance, Dibling made a strong case for more minutes... and five clean sheets is five clean sheets. James went live after the match and we've cut that discussion down into a short podcast and YouTube episode. 🎧 : buff.ly/OY2BjYL

As long as Moyes sees Dibling / Alcaraz as legit players off the bench, it's fine. Johnson probably plays better with Grealish on the other side and Dibling probably plays better with George on the other side + Charly as a right footed 10. Will Moyes play subs? Not sure.

I think Grealish can help unlock the best version of Brennan Johnson. Harsh to drop George to the bench though.

Really disappointed we didn’t get a game vs Scherpen, he’s been so poor. O’Neil made some good changes, this is near their best lineup. George, Dibling. Alcaraz could be very impactful if given the opportunity today. Need a good day from Brennan before the break. UTFT 💙

📍 Everton v Ipswich Last game covering the Blues for the Echo, hoping it’s a good one Have been overwhelmed by all the lovely messages since announcing my departure I’m trying to get back to as many as possible but, if you’ve not yet heard from me, thank you. It means a lot

As an Evertonian, I understand what he’s trying to do as well. It is annoying and don’t appreciate the language being used but up to the club to prove him and others wrong by actually doing something in the cups and/or qualifying for Europe. Until then, there’s some validity.

Directly out of the “let’s say some provocative things to get bites” playbook. They’ll get them of course, they’re getting one from me right now in sending this but it’s so transparent and childish.

Decent American college football programs spend around $20m on their rosters every season The best ones nearly $50m That's similar to Lyon, Frankfurt, Bologna, Villarreal, etc in soccer. Solid Europe-chasing teams in the top 5 leagues Mental nytimes.com/athletic/interac…

Everton are through after beating Wolves 1–0, with a rotated side giving Moyes a few useful decisions to make. We get into Dibling’s 90 minutes and why his patience should be treated as an asset, Alcaraz’s decisive contribution, the challenge of breaking down a stubborn Wolves side, and which players have earned more meaningful game time. As the self-proclaimed president and CEO of the Baltimore chapter of the Charly Alcaraz Fan Club, i'm delighted that he got the winner. May be a fool's errand, but I hope it leads to more playing time

FULL TIME EVERTON 🔵 1-0 🟠 WOLVES Toffees advance in the Cup through Charly Alcaraz's late winner, moments after being introduced. Lots of food for thought after that one: questions, thoughts, or topics for the pod?

A little pseudo-revenge on the cards tomorrow after Wolves dumped Everton out at this exact stage last season. Plenty of intrigue in how Moyes approaches it. After struggling to progress the ball at Spurs, Hackney centrally plus minutes for Alcaraz and Dibling could give us a very different look.

Mykolenko made five first-half tackles... and lost the ball 14 times. Simple "good" v "bad" verdicts miss the point. His defending held up under pressure, and Branthwaite’s presence changes what he can do. Full episode: buff.ly/pqNLxIi

Spurs had the territory. Everton had more control than the possession numbers suggest. The shape stayed compact, the middle stayed crowded and Spurs finished with only two shots on target. From our Spurs 0-0 Everton review: buff.ly/pqNLxIi

Everton defended the match well. They never worked out how to attack it. We look at the missing midfield outlet, Johnson's unused runs and whether Moyes made a winnable game safer with his substitutions. Pod out now: buff.ly/FJGN6d2
