Capitalism is killing science.
I'm a computer scientist and robotics engineer. I'm building a prototype for a humanitarian robotic system. A certain type of sensor I need (Strain Gauge) can get offensively expensive because of scalpers so I look into other options.
I find a paper about using conductive filaments to 3D print strain gauges for pennies on the dollar!

It's not just Pokemon cards. Scalpers have started buying up all the most common chips and sensors that we use in robotics and even childhood technology education and are selling them at sometimes 1000% markups or more. Just try to find a Raspberry Pi Pico 2 for MSRP. It took me two months to find them myself. This is why the strain gauges are offensively expensive in the first place. A sensor the size of my pinky nail and made mostly out of foil can cost over $10/each because of scalpers buying up all the stock and reselling them at higher prices.
And then the academic and professional institutions like IEEE put research that would help engineers progress technology behind a paywall.
Either way I'm going to have to fork over money to capitalists who do nothing but stand in the way with their hand out so you'll pay them to get out of the way.
This is the state of Research and Development under capitalism.
I am prototyping a humanitarian robotic system that I guarantee will help A LOT of people. I promise you the R&D would have been done by now if it weren't for all the flaming hoops I have to jump through to get parts and read research.
I guess all the people my robotic system will help will just have to wait until I can get enough money to get the capitalists out of the way so I can continue R&D.
The world's problems will never be fixed as long as capitalism is allowed to exist.

I once helped my wife babysit at her church. 3 - 5 year olds. This one kid went around and gathered ALL the toys, put them in a big pile, and wouldn't share them with anyone. He had like 20 toys and there was no way he could possibly play with all of them. He would get BIG mad if you tried to take any of them though. They were HIS toys.
All I could think is "Awwww it's a mini Jeff Bezos!" 😂
