Amazed at this short from That Gray Cartoon Pony! The secondary character (interviewer) never shows his face in the short, but there is just enough acting and pantomime in his hands that we can clearly read his emotions.
Plus some other fun details!
This is part of a new series called “People Not Characters”.
📝 When animating, it can be easy to get caught up in the mechanics of the movement, and while that is *INCREDIBLY* important, don’t forget to show the HUMANITY in your animation.

Here's a lovely shot from Glitch's Gaslight District!
LOVE the staging and colors! The high contrast, especially in the glowing eyes, makes this one of the most memorable shots in the episode.

Love the opposing directions and multiple anticipations. The movement is so clear and intentionally crafted, the acting is easy to follow, the staging is phenomenal! (see previous breakdown), and there's still so much more I didn't point out in this video, see for yourself!
Here's a great example from Glitch's Gaslight District of animating with clarity during fast-paced action scenes.
The animation reads clearly and intentionally with plenty of room for fun details, like the wiggly eye in the scope and the finger fumbling to load the weapon.
This is a great example of a thoughtfully crafted action sequence. With so many quick actions and camera cuts, it's important to use silhouette, screen space, and framing to guide your audience's eye exactly where you want it, when you want it. 👀
This quadruped animation by James Baxter highlights important key points to watch out for in any good four-legged locomotion! Not to mention, it's just so satisfying to watch.
I really like how pushed the expressions were, and how different facial features would lead the movement of the head. Some mouth shapes are also very interesting and I love the hands gestures, they really enhanced the performance making it relatable and believable.
