Here’s my most recent article, “Extradition in the Early Republic: International Law and Constitutional Authority,” hot off the presses from the Chicago Law Review. (Link provided in comment below.) In the last couple of years, I’ve been writing about how international law ideas of sovereignty have interacted with U.S. constitutional law, and I’m now completing a book on that topic. My latest article in this vein focuses on the early U.S. practice of extraditing criminal suspects. In recounting the history, I show how governmental actors resolved core issues of federalism, presidential power, and sovereignty-based legislative authority, in part by referencing international law understandings of nationhood. Importantly, though, I also document how these actors played a significant role in constructing those same understandings. This relational dynamic between the construction of international law and the construction of U.S. constitutional law will be a key theme of the book. @CambridgeUP , @TheGNapp , @_John_Mikhail , @adambcox , @MaggieBlackhawk

Fascinating work here on John Dickinson, and his less-than-enthusiastic support for the Patriot cause in the American Revolution.

It was a privilege to work with the remarkable WMQ team, led by editors Julia Gaffield and Meg Musselwhite, who did so much to improve every aspect of the forum. The journal lived up to its legendary reputation for rigorous editorial attention.

This was, without question, one of the most exciting things I have ever worked on. I'm thrilled that the whole forum is now available for all to read.
