X quietly changed its algorithm last week. No announcement. It's all in the open source repo.
Here's what moved, what it means, and what to do about it.
WHAT CHANGED
• Clicks count for less (0.4 → 0.3)
• Time spent reading after the click now counts (0 → 0.4)
• "Not interested" hurts 10% more
• The small account boost now covers up to 50k followers (was 1k), but only for posts under 2 hours old with fewer than 200 views
WHAT IT MEANS
Getting the click used to be the win. Now it's what happens after the click.
A hook that pulls people in and lets them down is worth less than before, and costs more if they hit "not interested".
And if you're under 50k, the first 2 hours decide whether a post gets a push at all.
WHAT TO DO NOW
1. Only promise what the post delivers. The hook gets the click, the content has to keep it.
2. Write for the read. Specifics, numbers, steps. Give people a reason to stay to the end.
3. Post when your audience is online, then stick around for 2 hours. Early likes help decide who gets the boost.
4. Post less, post better. Extra posts from the same account get scored down in the same feed.
5. End with a question that needs a real answer. A reply is weighted 10x a like.
6. Make it worth sharing. Copying the link to a post carries the heaviest weight in the repo, 40x a like.
7. Drop the drive-by replies under big accounts. There's now a separate reply spam model for those threads.
Stop farming engagement, start earning attention.
And that's it now. The X meta going forward.
Now you know.
