Trying to build a life I actually want to live. Money, ambition, freedom & the occasional questionable decision.

I’m trying to build a life I actually want to live. Which sounds simple until you add money, ambition, work, expectations, and the occasional terrible decision. I’m interested in what happens when ambition meets real life. How much money is enough? How much work is too much? When does “success” start costing more than it gives back? And why are we so good at building lives we secretly want to escape from? I don’t have all the answers. I have opinions, questions, stories, and probably a few questionable decisions left to make. This is The High-Yield Life Let’s see what happens. 🔜

NOTHING IS WRONG I think we wait for things to become unbearable before giving ourselves permission to change them. The relationship has to become toxic. The job has to become miserable. The life has to fall apart. Otherwise, shouldn’t we just be… grateful? But lately I’ve been wondering: Why does something have to break before we’re allowed to admit it no longer fits? Nothing has to be wrong….Maybe different is reason enough. #RealConversations #LifeChanges #PersonalGrowth

The uncomfortable confession There should be a word for being grateful for your life and simultaneously wanting to change half of it. Because I am grateful. Very. I would also like to renegotiate several terms and conditions. Apparently, these two feelings are allowed to exist at the same time. Who knew? #RealConversation #LifeTransition #SelfReflection

We romanticize starting over. Quit. Leave. Move. Jump. Choose yourself. But nobody talks about the courage of saying: “I know my life needs to change. I just refuse to destroy it to prove I’m brave.” Slow isn’t stuck. Careful isn’t afraid. “I don’t know yet” is a perfectly legitimate place to be. When did taking our time become a character flaw? #RealConversations #LifeTransitions #Reinvention

Lately, I’ve been told I’m “unresolved.” Apparently, I’m taking too long to figure my life out but I’m a single mother with bills to pay and a 10-year-old who, inconveniently, cannot survive on bread and dreams. So when people tell me to “just take the leap,” sometimes I hear: “Have you considered destabilizing your entire life for character development?” and I couldn’t help but wonder… What if I’m not behind? What if I’ve simply stopped making life-changing decisions according to someone else’s clock? Maybe being unresolved isn’t something to fix. That's what freedom looks like before we know where we’re going #RealConversations #Reinvention #StartingOver

REAL CONVERSATIONS, tonight ☕️ Apparently, I’m “unresolved.” I’ve been told this more than once lately. Which sounds rather glamorous, if you think about it. UNRESOLVED Like a woman in a French film with complicated love affairs, excellent cheekbones and absolutely no intention of explaining herself. Except apparently it means I should be making decisions faster. Taking bigger risks. Leaping. …Preferably without looking down. And for a while, I wondered if they were right. Maybe I am taking too long or everyone else received a timeline for adulthood and mine got lost somewhere between motherhood, bills and trying to remember whether I paid the electricity. Then this morning, I took the longer road to work. Nothing happened…And somehow, everything did. Because somewhere between one red light and the next, I started wondering: What if being “unresolved” isn’t the problem? What if the problem is that we’ve spent our entire lives checking everyone else’s clock? There’s a strange kind of pressure in being told to “just jump” when you’re the one who has to make sure there’s still dinner on the table after you land. So tonight, I want to talk about the courage nobody puts on Instagram. The courage to not know yet. To change slowly. To disappoint people with your timing. To stand at the edge and decide that taking your time doesn’t necessarily mean you’re afraid. Because perhaps we’re not behind at all. Perhaps we’re just finally asking: Wait… whose timeline am I trying to keep up with anyway? More tonight. I have a few things to resolve. Or perhaps I don’t. ☕️ Real Conversations: The questions adulthood somehow forgot to answer. 🔜 #RealConversations #StartingOver #LifeTransitions #Reinvention #PersonalEssays

We don’t need to be Carrie Bradshaw. We don’t need the perfect apartment, the perfect column, or a suspiciously affordable collection of Manolos. We just need to notice the ordinary things that everyone experiences and ask the question nobody thought to ask out loud. That’s actually why I started Real Conversations. Less “here’s what I know.” More “wait… does anyone else think about this too?” Because sometimes the best writing doesn’t make you think, “she’s brilliant.”...It makes you think, “Oh God, me too.” And personally, that’s the kind of writing I want to keep coming back to. #RealConversations #WritingCommunity #PersonalEssays #WritersOfX #AmWriting #BuildInPublic #Connect

REAL CONVERSATIONS — apparently, we need to talk about envy. This morning, I wrote about women supporting women. Beautiful. Evolved. Very emotionally mature of me. And then I opened Instagram. You know where this is going. There she was. Someone roughly my age, doing something suspiciously close to something I want to do, looking incredibly happy while doing it. And for approximately three seconds, I did not think: “How inspiring. There’s room for all of us.” I thought: “Oh, for fuck’s sake.” And then I laughed. Because maybe this is the part of women supporting women we don’t talk about enough. It’s easy to celebrate another woman when she’s winning at something you don’t particularly want. But what about when she gets the thing you secretly wanted? The career. The relationship. The apartment. The body. The book deal. The business. The baby. The plane ticket. The version of life you occasionally visit in your head when nobody’s watching. Can we admit that sometimes another woman’s success inspires us... and sometimes it hurts a little? Not because we want her to lose but because her win accidentally shines a light on the place where we feel behind. And suddenly you’re not comparing yourself to her. You’re comparing your actual life to the life you thought you’d have by now. That’s a very different kind of ache and I couldn’t help but wonder: What if envy isn’t always ugliness? What if sometimes it’s information? A tiny, socially unacceptable compass pointing directly at something we haven’t admitted we want. Maybe instead of immediately shaming ourselves for feeling it, we could get curious. What exactly about her life bothered me? And more importantly: What did it reveal about mine? Because perhaps being a woman who supports other women doesn’t mean never feeling jealous. Maybe it means being able to say: “I wish that were happening to me too” without needing it to stop happening to her. There should be room for both sentences. I’m happy for you. And I want more for me. That’s not competition. That’s honesty. And maybe another woman’s light isn’t there to remind you that yours is dimmer. Maybe it’s illuminating something you’re finally ready to want out loud. Anyway. This morning it was dull skin. Tonight we’re unpacking female envy. At this rate, by Wednesday my vitamin C serum and I will have resolved my entire personality. Real Conversations. ☕️ Your turn: what has another woman’s life ever made you realise you secretly wanted for your own? #RealConversations #WomenSupportingWomen #FemaleAmbition #Comparison #WomenWhoWrite #ModernWomanhood #PersonalEssays

This morning I woke up, looked at myself in the mirror, and my first thought was: “Good God, my skin looks dull” Not exactly the kind of revelation you’d find printed on a motivational coffee mug. And yet, somewhere between wondering whether I needed more vitamin C, more sleep, or simply better bathroom lighting, I started thinking about how obsessed we’ve become with the idea of glowing. Glowing skin. Glowing career. Glowing relationship. Glowing life. Preferably all at once, before 8:30 a.m. And I couldn’t help but wonder: What if we’ve misunderstood the whole idea of light? Maybe the real power move isn’t being the brightest woman in the room. Maybe it’s making sure the room gets a little brighter because you walked into it. Because when I think about the women who have truly changed something in me, they weren’t necessarily the loudest, the most successful, or the most dazzling. They were the ones who switched something on. A sentence. An idea. A “Do it.” A “I think you’re much more ready than you realize.” An “I know someone you should meet.” An “I read what you wrote. Keep going.” Tiny switches, flipped at exactly the right moment. That’s part of what I’m trying to create with Real Conversations: a place where none of us has to arrive already glowing. We can show up tired, confused, ambitious, in love, heartbroken, hopeful, slightly lost. Even with dull skin. And perhaps leave the conversation with something inside us switched back on. Because another woman’s light shouldn’t make us wonder: “Why is she shining more than I am?” it should make us think: “What if her light is simply proof that mine is still there too?” Anyway, I still put on the vitamin C serum. I’m all for personal growth, but I don’t think it should have to do all the work. #RealConversations #WomenSupportingWomen #WomenWhoWrite #RealLife #PersonalGrowth #FemaleFriendship #SelfReflection #TheHighYieldOperator

REAL CONVERSATION ↓ There’s something funny about getting lost in a city where nobody knows your name. You walk a little slower. You stop explaining yourself. You become strangely comfortable not knowing exactly where you’re going. And somewhere between the wrong street and the tiny café you never planned to find, the usual version of you gets a little quieter. That’s why we love travelling: We tell ourselves we’re discovering new places. but we’re really just discovering who we are when our old surroundings can’t tell us who we’re supposed to be. And maybe the best part is getting slightly lost …and realising you actually like the person who finds her way back ✨ #RealConversations #SelfDiscovery #StartingOver #PersonalGrowth #LifeTransitions #WomenWhoWrite #PersonalEssays #FindingYourself #LifeInProgress #PersonalWriting #MessyMiddle

Fear rarely says “don’t do it” It sounds much more like “be realistic,” “wait until you’re ready,” “maybe later.” ...And suddenly you’re not trapped but you’re just very comfortable inside the boundaries fear built for you. I’ve caught myself doing this more times than I’d like to admit. What’s something you’ve been calling “being realistic” lately that might actually be fear? #Freedom #Ambition #LifeDesign #SelfAwareness #StartingOver #RealConversations #LifeInProgress #TheHighYieldLife

I used to think freedom meant having more money. Now I think it's having fewer things you can't say no to.

THE THING YOU KEEP POSTPONING What's something you keep telling yourself you'll do “when life calms down”? I don't want the obvious answer. I want the thing you've quietly postponed for so long that you've started pretending you don't want it anymore. What did you move to “later” that might actually belong in your life now?

The Bottleneck In business, when everything is a priority, nothing is. Same with life. The bottleneck isn't always time. Sometimes it's the number of things demanding access to it. #IntentionalLiving #Businness #LifeDesign #Time #LifeAudit

Day 3 — No Time “I don't have time.” Sometimes that's true. But sometimes what we really mean is: “I haven't decided what deserves my time badly enough to make room for it.” That's harder to admit. Because adding another hour is difficult. Removing three things is a decision. #LifeDesign #IntentionalLiving #TheLifeAudit
