Our government wasn't like this, even 30 yrs ago.
There's one main reason why it's this way.
It doesn't have to be.
Federally fund campaigns.
What you're describing is a symptom, rather than a root cause.
An @npratc piece circa 1980 said big business was afraid voters would punish them if they donated too heavy-handedly and appeared to be buying the government they wanted. (Remember that PACs were a new thing.)

It's been three years of documenting slaughter.
You may notice less media coverage from Palestine, because in Gaza journalists have been slaughtered en masse, and in the West Bank we're being put in torture chambers and threatened systemically by Israel (both military & police, and settlers).
But the real thing is that enough has been covered, what's missing is not news, it's the insistence of the world that we keep providing documentation while it refuses to provide accountability.
What this has done is create a vacuum where we are drained, depleted, and forced to risk our lives, while Israeli colonial and genocidal violence is sustained and excused.

He hit 512 home runs, most of them before he turned 33, at a position that was still treated as a defensive job. The reason nobody talks about him is that Hank Aaron was standing right there in the same lineup.

I gifted this article about Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent which details his bullying, his erratic behavior, and temper.
He has lost an unusually high number of treasury employees in his first 20 months, including many he brought in that were Senate confirmed. He has already churned through three chiefs of staff. His staff is so afraid of his volatile behavior that they try to gage his mood before showing up to meetings, and celebrate when he is out of the office.

🤬🤬😤My wife takes her 2023 RAV4 to the dealership for a recall service. This was for an airflow sensor
After finishing they come out and tell her that her horn isn’t functioning and that it would be $145 to diagnose the issue + labor and parts to repair
Mind you she knows for a fact that the horn worked this morning
The techs specifically said “we checked all the connections and so it’s not that”
I told her to decline and bring it home
Mind you this is so unlikely to be anything other than a fuse or the fact that they unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in or worse, straight up scamming
After testing the fuse and the relay, as well as the clock spring, I take the radiator cover off to inspect the plugs at the horn and what do you know both horns are unplugged
The airflow sensor is nowhere near these plugs so there’s zero chance these were taken off as part of the job not to mention they said they “checked the plugs”
It’s also impossible they both happen to vibrate loose
