OPERATION SATO PONCE: WE DID THAT 💪🐾 Yesterday, dozens of feeding route caretakers and independent rescuers lined the streets in Ponce for the opportunity to get their community dogs treated for free through Operation Sato. Each patient receives $650 worth of high quality veterinary services FREE, which includes spay/neuter surgery, including full physical examination, sterilization surgery, a suite of vaccinations including Rabies and Leptospirosis, preventative flea/tick medications, and injected pain medication and antibiotics. 34 satos receieved these services yesterday. Two were actually found to already have been spayed, but they still received vaccinations and tattoos to mark them as treated. The ripple effects of days like yesterday will be felt strongly in Ponce and neighboring municipalities on the south of the island. And we’re not nearly finished for the month of October. Our next full day of TNR (trap, spay/neuter, and release) is already coming up OCTOBER 9TH! Yesterday’s success would not be possible without our friend and partner Dra. Rolan, who opened her doors to us and offered her skills to help treat the community she has long served at Clinica Veterinaria Mi Dogtora. And to @BISSELLPets, a HUGE thank you for helping sponsor costs of the vetting staff for the day - your commitment to population control through #FixTheFuture is felt strongly in Puerto Rico, and we are so grateful. Thank you to our team, thank you to our volunteers, and thank you to our supporters who donate to fund these crucial interventions on the stray dog overpopulation crisis on the island. 🇵🇷 LET’S DO IT AGAIN 💥💥#SatoStrong PS: To inquire about appointments for future Operation Sato high-volume events for community dogs, please email tnr@thesatoproject.org

‼️ Hi friends, coming to you with a time-sensitive ask: ASPEN is in urgent need of a new foster home. This sweet boy is 3 years old, 44 lbs, and flew in on September 19th. He has been adjusting really well in his foster home, but unfortunately, his foster mom has had some unforeseen medical circumstances come up and is no longer able to continue fostering him. We’re looking for a new foster who can give Aspen a safe and comfortable place to settle in. His ideal foster home would be outside of the city, with no cats and no other male dogs in the home. Aspen has already made such a big transition, and we really want to make sure his next move is a positive one. If you’re able to foster him, or know someone who might be a good fit, please reach out. Although of course, an adopter would be ideal!!! Please share with your friends and family too, if you can. Finding Aspen new placement is urgent. Email our team if you're interested or have questions: adoption@thesatoproject.org

And today, we are CELEBRATING THE HELL OUT OF HER. 🥹🎉 Chrissy, congratulations on being named one of Forbes’ 50 Over 50. We know this honor represents something much bigger than you. It represents every sato who has ever gotten a second chance, every person who has opened their home, every volunteer who has shown up, and every member of the #SatoStrong family who has believed that we can change what’s possible for dogs in Puerto Rico. We are so damn proud of you. ❤️ CONGRATULATIONS, CHRISSY!!!

Special moments unfolding in the grass outside the airport hangar, as satos took their first sniffs, enjoyed water and snacks, took potty breaks, and immediately started bonding with their new forever families. You couldn’t walk two feet without seeing a happy sato rolling in the grass, or a couple cuddling their new puppy, or small kids making core memories of their new family members. These kinds of moments come from YOUR support, YOUR advocacy, YOUR #SatoStrong fighting spirit. This is what it’s all about. To support our continued mission and help cover lingering costs, visit thesatoproject.org/sato-unit…

16 neglected satos… Not just tiny puppies from the beach. 16 adult dogs were recently rescued from a hoarding situation in Hatillo, Puerto Rico, with help from our friend Officer Vidot. Some arrived with medical needs; others are deeply fearful, never having had the opportunity to trust new people. And technically, there were 17 at first - sadly, one was so medically compromised that our vet recommended euthanasia after a thorough exam. Our hearts broke to hear it. But we knew it was the most humane option. Our trainer Edgardo is now working with each of the 16 dogs to understand who they are, what they need, and what kind of home will help them thrive. He’s creating individual behavioral profiles so their next chapters can be built around their unique needs. Many are already listed for adoption on our website, because next month they’ll travel to the mainland - that’s right, SATO United will be back in September!! SATO United doesn't shy away from adult satos, medium and large dogs, or animals with medical and behavioral challenges; the ones who need extra time, patience, and understanding. We do not discriminate. If a rescue animal is properly vetted and has a mainland home waiting, we want to help get them there. And when other rescuers need need affordable veterinary care in Puerto Rico, we want to help provide that, too. SATO United will take to the skies again on 9/19, and that timing matters. It’s prime hurricane season, and Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico in September 2017. We’re raising funds to fly as many animals as possible to safety before dangerous weather hits, both from our program and from organizations and independent rescuers across the island. Saying “yes” means more than a spot on a plane. It takes veterinary care, food, medications, supplies, rehabilitation, behavioral support, foster homes, and transport to adopters. Visit thesatoproject.org/sato-unit… today to help us say YES to these deserving rescues🙏 #SatoStrong

Puerto Rico is facing a crisis that can feel impossible to comprehend: 650,000 stray dogs on an island the size of the state of Connecticut. Too little access to veterinary care, too much compromised infrastructure, and far too many animals left vulnerable to suffering. As we’ve said continually in the past, #wecannotrescueourwayoutofthus. But we can do everything we can to reduce suffering in the community and we can do it alongside people on the ground who also care about these incredible creatures. We hope you’ll continue to support us and the #SatoStrong heroes we partner with to get this work done every day. Stay tuned. We have something to share with you soon.

🚨DROUGHT UPDATE: We have water! As of this morning, the Sanctuary officially has running water again. We were humbled by the community’s response to the shutoff, with hundreds of supporters reaching out to see how they could help our dogs. We also had @ABCNewsLive visit the property and interview our team about the struggles of trying to keep a program full of rescue dogs hydrated and cool amid a record breaking water shortage. We are immensely grateful. The water could turn back off at any time, so we are preparing for the worst, refilling our storage tanks and continuing with rationing measures. But for right now, our pups are happy and healthy, and we couldn’t be prouder to call ourselves #SatoStrong. We can get through anything together. 💪♥️
