Pac-Man was SO popular in 1982 that Alfred E. Neuman didn’t even make it onto the cover of his own magazine (though I believe the British version *did* paste him in).

When I worked in the comic industry, there seemed to be two camps in Editorial regarding comic book fans. One saw them as a buncha lovable goofs. The other, who championed Comics as more of a High Art Form, saw them as smelly embarrassing Rorschachs. Some of this was classism.

So I guess in one way, you could see Watchmen as an allegory for the comic book industry. Ozymandias champions a more high-class comic book. The Comedians & Rorschachs are systematically removed. Nite Owl is caught in the middle. And Dr. Manhattan, exasperated, just goes to Mars.

To be clear, this viewpoint of seeing the fans as unwashed masses of Rorschach-like embarrassments was also shared on the part of some Creative & Media within the industry. If only they would stop buying the books! That would really help the industry's image!

Does anybody know what comic book Billy Corgan is reading in the "Today" music video?

I like that Bruce Wayne takes the time to shave to be Batman. He’s not going to put the cowl over a hairy face. He has standards.

When I was in my 20’s I would go in the middle of Union Square & just read tarot cards for people. It was wild, there’d be a crowd around me. I didn’t even charge them. I was just trying to gain experience. Of course, I read *this* comic off the stands when I was 7 years old!

Here’s the deck I used, the Hanson-Roberts. I chose it over Rider-Waite b/c they looked more like comic book characters. I’ve gone thru 3 sets of this deck since the 90’s, as I’ve sworn off tarot & threw it out only to purchase it again like a doofus.

I had a response/retweet of this post but more Monkees-related; it equated Charlie with Peter Tork. The post for whatever reason didn't go through, but here is a photo of Peter Tork ❤️.
Mac=I'd be probably most attracted to right off the bat Dennis=He's OK too & I'm most likely to actually *date* him, but he'd be terrible. TERRIBLE!!! Charlie=Probably the best, truest guy. Makes flow charts on random walls.

I mean…this scene has its charm. But it’s a little on-the-nose, isn’t it? I sort of liked the idea that Jason was just like a kid who died tragically & his mom died & then he supernaturally came back from the dead just filled w/vengeance as the result of those circumstances.
Jason’s first swing of the machete in Crystal Lake. This is crazy foreshadowing. Little does he know what he will become.

Just as an aside—b/c I have had some excellent comments that are unreservedly “pro-Crystal Lake”—I have NO problem w/there being another interpretation of this IP. It’s all good. The kid is adorable.

Here’s a treat: Bill Murray & Rodney Dangerfield as competing “Supermen” (co-starring Valerie Perrine from the actual movies!). From 1982.
