A Supreme Court advocate has sought the Attorney General’s consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Advocate Brajesh Singh has alleged that Kumar wilfully disobeyed Supreme Court judgments governing the EC. The plea cites the SC’s T.N. Seshan judgment, which held that the CEC is not an absolute authority within the multi-member Commission. Another minor girl has allegedly been harassed by a group of men in Bihar’s Samastipur, days after the Jamui incident. The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday at a local embankment in Samastipur. The girl had gone there with a boy on a motorcycle when the group approached them. At least nine people were killed after a sleeper bus caught fire on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida. The private bus was travelling from Delhi to Mahoba with around 30–35 passengers.
