I absolutely *HATED* the earlier cinematic version of Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It would prove quite the...er, accomplishment...if Gerwig's treatment of Magician's Nephew (which sounds worse and worse by the minute) managed to be even MORE disappointing.

Everybody's complaining about the Narnia film that's coming out soon... Wait until Eustace is the good guy in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. After all, he's a 'very up-to-date' person, a vegetarian, he likes 'books of information' and machines, and he calls his parents Harold and Alberta. He'll be the one lecturing us about how Aslan is right in identifying as a woman.

I see that we’ve circled back around to “is the Silmarillion worth reading?” discourse again. It gives a lived-in weight to the world and the stories that come after it, and itself contains some of the most beautiful and tragic and thrilling stories I’ve ever read. And it really isn’t difficult to read, though people love to claim that it is. If you’re a Tolkien fan, then it is absolutely a must-read. If you’re a fan of the Peter Jackson movies first (and think characters like Tom Bombadil are pointless), then you may not enjoy it.
