i tested out @ZestProtocol recently to see how their bitcoin collateral vaults feel in real use.
the setup is surprisingly straightforward. you just click "open a vault," lock in your btc as collateral, and borrow usdc on ethereum.
i'm usually pretty hesitant about cross chain setups or wrapped tokens because of the added smart contract risk, but what makes this interesting is that your bitcoin never actually leaves bitcoin l1. it stays in a self custodial, bitvm enabled vault on the base layer while you get usdc liquidity on evm. once you pay back what you owe, you get your exact same bitcoin back, no weird synthetic tokens involved. it also handles partial withdrawals and liquidations, so you aren't backed into an all or nothing corner.
the team behind it isn't new to this space either, they're the ex stacks devs who built sbtc and previously ran $100m+ tvl lending markets with zero bad debt.

i have been tracking prediction slips, player stats and live odds on prediction markets for a while now and the clunkiness isn't just annoying, it’s holding the whole space back.
- oracles are too slow. general chains treat real world events like simple token price feeds. if you trade a match stat like "will player x attempt 50+ passes?", waiting hours for dispute rounds to settle your payout kills all the momentum.
- distribution is also broken. no regular user wants to connect a browser wallet, bridge gas across chains, and swap tokens just to back a 2 tap opinion on a headline.
this is why i fw what (@prdctr_io) is building. they built dedicated infrastructure specifically for event trading.
their node network verifies real world media data in seconds so payouts hit as soon as the final whistle blows. on top of that, they handle compliance at the protocol layer and offer simple 3-tap widgets (through predictor.io) that media sites can embed right inside their articles.
where does this take us?
- probabilities replace sensationalized headlines as our fastest way to verify breaking news.
- hyper local micro markets take off from niche player stats to local city policy.
- ai agents become power traders, using these probability feeds to hedge risk milliseconds before a human even reads a phone notification.
