I like Tim’s ideas because he playfully pokes holes in BOTH backward-looking eastern and western traditions by asking obvious questions. AND he points towards a new evolutionary spirituality that is life affirming.

If the brain dies, how could the soul possibly continue? @TimFreke believes the answer starts with questioning whether the brain actually creates the psyche in the first place. His idea is that the body and soul are two different systems that work together. The brain allows those systems to interact but isn’t necessarily the source of the soul itself. What does it actually mean to be conscious? @TimFreke has a surprisingly simple way of looking at it: consciousness is what we pay attention to. Our brains are constantly taking in enormous amounts of information, but we’re only conscious of a small part of it. And Tim believes the more attention we pay to our own thoughts and actions, the more choice we have over what we actually do. Tim Freke believes the soul survives death. But his idea of the soul is very different from the traditional view. @TimFreke sees the body & soul as two connected systems that have evolved together. The body eventually fails, but the soul continues - carrying its past forward and continuing to evolve. It’s what Tim calls the evolution of soul.
