One of the core responsibilities of validators is to protect the network. That is exactly what happened over the night. Following the security incident disclosed by Virtue, validators coordinated quickly. Within a short window — overnight, during a weekend, and inside half an epoch (481) — 62.27% of voting power (33 validators) already supported the measure that froze the attacker’s addresses, at least for now. The objective was containment: limit further damage and preserve room to respond. What happens next will depend on the remediation process and the investigation. This step was not a final settlement. It was a necessary emergency action so the network could still act while the facts were being established. That level of coordination, at that speed, on a weekend, is a useful signal. On @iota, validators are not only running servers. They are exercising their role in network security. Regarding @Virtue_Money, we are waiting for a clear explanation of how remediation will proceed. From our perspective, this freeze can only be a temporary measure. It is there to make a proper investigation possible without the damage spreading — not to stand in as a lasting solution.
