Is flattening a 3D character mesh directly against the camera lens the ultimate hack for 2D anime rendering in Blender?
Indie anime creator 炭猫べべ / Sumineko_BeBe demonstrated a technique where the 3D model is dynamically squashed flat relative to the camera view.
Unlike an orthographic camera—which flattens everything globally and ruins 3D environment depth—this camera-flattening setup lets you keep a full perspective camera for background parallax while rendering character meshes with a clean, orthographic-like 2D look.
Have you tried using camera-space mesh flattening for NPR anime renders, or do you still prefer tweaking perspective focal lengths?

I always assumed that people learned art because they enjoyed it, not just as a means to an end. I got into low poly 3D because I enjoy making models. Even before AI, I could have downloaded assets or used templates. I didn't because I WANTED TO MAKE THE THING.
Using a base or a template then meant it wasn't really mine.
Using AI to generate it now means it isn't really mine.
Laying out the topo, stressing over each vert, obsessing over every pixel of the texture, thats WHY I love my models. Cuz it's me down to the last detail.
There are things I don't love I'd hire someone for if I had money, and am tempted by AI to use if the tech was more morally grounded, but there are certain things I got into art for that no matter how accessible it becomes, I'd NEVER outsource, cuz that'd defeat the purpose.
I say this as a fellow artist with complete sincerity: Who cares?
You're an insanely talented animator. You can make things with a pencil and your mind that other people need a $5000 GPU or a cloud subscription to make, with less control and no soul.
Your work still has value.
Im so tired man... i never thought I'd see my skillset i worked so hard to obtain be reduced to "make me a cartoon" button.
I sacrificed so much of my life to learn how to animate. Only for it to be de-valued till its... embarrassing to admit. "I make cartoons"
The surge of interest in Dread post-Ravenous reveal makes me so happy. That game was incredible and more people getting to experience it and 2D Metroid in general rules man.
Spend like three hours yesterday tweaking like 5 verts on Azumi's face instead of doing something of actual value.
"Perfect."

EEVEE Next is still brutal on low end systems. Viewport playback in an empty scene drops almost 60% on the same system vs legacy EEVEE in @Blender 4.2. Buttery smooth 60fps animation playback drops to low 30s at best, and that's just with my sub 1000 triangle PS1 models.
