As much as I'm an advocate of functionality over the grandiose, I have to disagree with him on this one.
Nigeria can have both good looking and functional bus terminals. This should be the bare minimum.
I'll take a bus terminal people will actually use over a useless airport.
I will get sticks for this, but I think it needs to be said.
No bus terminal has any right to be this way, not in a country with such a massive infrastructure deficit.
That said, I completely understand why it was built this way. Nigerians are obsessed with glossy outcomes, even when there is no fundamental infrastructure to sustain them.
A more intentional country would build simple, functional bus stops that match its level of development. More importantly, the opportunity cost could be used to standardize bus stops and transportation infrastructure across the state.
But you build what people emotionally connect with. This is why every governor wants a white elephant project that sends people into a frenzy.
Our governance, and how we are run as a nation, is ultimately a reflection of who we are.

I've complained about the expensive bus terminal built by Lagos state at Oshodi and the new ones currently under construction at Mile 2 because they failed to function as a useful bus terminal.
Functionality and grand public infrastructure should not be mutually exclusive.
The $70m Oshodi bus terminal completed in 2019 is designed to be a bus transit hub for Lagos. It's composed of 3 terminals. terminal 1 serves intercity buses, terminal 2 serves the BRT, while Terminal 3 serves commuter busses towards Ikoyi, & Lagos Island.

I'm used to the empty Waymos in San Francisco, but at least anectditally, 1 in 2 or 3 in 4 of the cars I see have a passenger.
In Atlanta, none of the Waymos I saw driving around had a passenger in them. The amount of deadheading in such a sprawled out city must be crazy.
Empty Waymo cars swarm an Atlanta neighborhood, repeatedly circling cul-de-sacs and leaving residents frustrated and confused.
One local estimated nearly 50 self-driving cars rolled through the area in a single morning, with several clogging the road as they struggled to maneuver around one another.
Waymo said it had “already addressed this routing behavior.”

Japan has fumbled the bag again on exporting HSR. They fumbled the bag on Taiwan HSR, loosing out on the lucrative construction contract to Europeans.
They fumbled the Indonesian HSR, loosing everything to China, now, they've fumbled their last opportunity, India.

China's CRH ordered 60 sets of 8-car trains from Kawasaki back in 2004 for its CRH2 train.
Later CRH2s were built without any Japanese involvement.
Bringing China's total to
60 trains, 480 cars.
So Japan's Shinkansen train exports are;
1. Taiwan - 552 cars
2. China - 480 cars

This lack of home charging being the norm in China is a fact most Western EV advocates and automakers missed, that's why they can't comprehend the agressive push for faster & faster charging by Chinese automakers.
how do you mean who needs that, most people don't have home charging in China, I saw tons of people sleeping in their old ass EVs at charging hubs (parking lots)

I talked about this a while back. In the US and most parts of Europe, 80% of BEV owners have access to home charging, while in China, it's the reverse. 80% of BEV owners live in apartments & lack home charging, making fast public charging an absolute necessity.
This is a very US centric chain of thought. In the US, 80% of BEV owners live in single family homes & can charge at home, while In China, 80% live in apartments & don't have the ability to charge at home.
Yes, MW charging is not needed, but level 1 & 2 is not going to cut it.

The Shale revolution is coming at the tail end of the oil-led era. It's impossible for an energy source in It's twilight to lead in the next century.
The alternative energy revolution is at the start of the curve. It's obvious it will dominate the next century.
This is still an open question;
What energy revolution will drive the 21st Century?
1. The Shale Petroleum Energy Revolution being driven the by the US, or;
2. The Alternative Energy Revolution being driven by China?

Both China and India are experiencing a decline in fossil fuel consumption as they get displaced by renewable energy sources.
The rest of the world will eventually follow suit.
Another example of misinterpreting data. Coal and oil production reached record heights, but at the same time, Coal & Oil use in electricity production dropped due to increasing supply of solar and wind on the electric grid.
