Like the 60s started in 1964 I believe the 2000s started with The Sopranos and West Wing, so they’re on my list. There’s gotta be some rules so I do 30 minute comedies in a different grouping.

The 2000s most definitely started September 11, 2001. But 2000s TV started in 1999 with episode one of The Sopranos.

My quibble about including Sopranos and West Wing aside, I’ve come to believe Mad Men should be number 1 on the NYT list. All of the top 10 are brilliant and masterfully conceived and beautifully shot and perfectly acted and so dramatic and authentic and funny when needed but Mad Men had one more thing: the burden of history. JFK, moon landing, the coke commercial, the suits, the dresses, the first time someone from the east went on a plane to go to LA - all had to stand up to a perfect memory of it. And they Beamoned it. (Soap is a human essential and opera is high art and my ancestral pride)
