Question for @BBC #ClimateQuestion: Why do most people find it weird to acknowledge that animal agriculture is the main driver of the breaching of most of the Earth's planetary boundaries? This is a huge problem because we then ignore a key action: Eating a whole food plant-based diet. #DietChange is win-win for the animals, climate, freshwater use, land use, biodiversity, water pollutions, individual longevity and public health, food security, worker rights and mental health, and more! Your taste buds change after 22 days.. I challenge you to be disciplined and try a plant-based milk for 3 weeks. You just may just lose your addiction. Meat tastes good because of spices... You can make delicious and healthy plant-based foods with vegetables, legumes, nuts and seeds. Everyone can play a part in making this urgent change to our food system.

It's true that caged hens emit less — if you can't move, you don't eat as much grain. Caged humans would also emit less.
But the effect is tiny. Even using this study's numbers, a dozen organic eggs has the climate impact of about five minutes of driving.
The animal welfare impact is not tiny. A dozen caged eggs requires confining a hen for around 335 hours in a space smaller than a sheet of paper.
That's not a climate solution. It's just cruelty with a green label.

This study shows sometimes 1 measure has inadvertent impacts on the other issue. Cage free had higher environmental & certain animal welfare costs (# of hens sent to slaughter & their mortality). We need to pivot to plant-based focus to mitigate animal and climate/eco-impacts
