This week, Assistant Secretary for Industry and Analysis Steven Haines participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of a $200 million CordenPharma peptide manufacturing facility in North Augusta, South Carolina. This expansion strengthens domestic pharmaceutical supply chains, and expands American manufacturing capabilities, and creates more than 200 U.S. jobs. Congratulations to CordenPharma!

On the margins of #UNGA in NYC, Under Secretary William Kimmitt celebrated two major rail commercial wins for Pittsburgh-based Wabtec Corporation. In Guinea, Wabtec’s success includes 140 locomotives, support services, and digital rail solutions totaling more than $1.2 billion. Wabtec and Kyrgyz Railway also signed a $53 million deal for up to 10 locomotives—strengthening critical transportation infrastructure and deepening U.S. commercial ties in strategically important Central Asia. Together, these deals support more than 4,800 American jobs. ITA’s Advocacy Center and @ExportGov played a key role in advancing these wins for American workers and strengthening U.S. leadership in advanced technology and manufacturing.

Last week, Under Secretary William Kimmitt joined @EximBankUS Chairman John Jovanovic and White House Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain David Copley at Mesabi Metallics’ new $2.5 billion iron ore mine and pellet plant in Nashwauk, Minnesota. The visit included a demonstration blast at the mine as operations ramp up at the site. The project represents the first new iron ore mine and pellet plant to start up in the United States in 50 years—a major investment in America’s industrial base and the upstream inputs essential to American steelmaking. Under President Trump, the Administration has made strengthening domestic supply chains and expanding U.S. production of the raw materials that underpin American manufacturing a priority. From iron ore to finished steel, the Trump Administration is supporting efforts to bring the entire supply chain for this critical capability to the United States—and those efforts are already producing historic results.

Assistant Secretary for Industry and Analysis Steven Haines led the Department of Commerce delegation to the 70th International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference in Vienna, Austria—the premier global gathering for civil nuclear policymakers. Assistant Secretary Haines joined U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright and the U.S. delegation in advancing U.S. leadership on nuclear energy, safety, and nonproliferation with international counterparts and industry leaders.

#ICYMI "A great country can't remain a great country if it can't make steel." Under Secretary William Kimmitt was honored to participate in the Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana Steel groundbreaking ceremony in Donaldsonville, Louisiana last Friday. This $5.8 billion investment will create more than 1,300 jobs and produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel every year. The Trump Administration will continue to stand with American workers, drive investment in American production, and strengthen American manufacturing capacity.

This 25th anniversary week is tough for all Americans, but especially for me. My firm was located on the top 5 floors of the World Trade Center, and on September 11, 2001, my brother Gary was killed, along with 657 of my friends and colleagues. That day changed everything.
