From 87 mph to touching 93. And he’s only a sophomore. 👀 Bryce Edick’s transformation has been insane. Here’s how we built his velocity the right way. 🧵👇

When I took a look at Bryce’s initial assessment, I knew I was dealing with a future high-end thrower. 6’4”, 220 lbs. Looked like he had the type of build that would support a really strong body moving forward. But he wasn’t just big, he moved extremely well.

Bryce has one of the most mobile shoulders I’ve seen in an athlete. Really mobile shoulders Mobile hips. When I put the pieces together in the initial assessment, I knew this had the potential to be something special.

My biggest thing with Bryce was making sure: 1️⃣ He stays healthy 2️⃣ He gets strong 3️⃣ He can stabilize all the range of motion he was gifted with That shaped my plan for him, both off the field and on the mound.

On the field, I looked at his mechanics. His lower half worked really well, he could sit into his hinge and rotate efficiently. But in his upper half, there was a little hitch in his throwing arm that I wanted to fix right away.

Bryce came in-house in August. He told me his top velo, lifetime, was 87. For a freshman, that’s really good. But when he threw a bullpen on mocap and force plates, he was 83-86. His hips weren’t fully clearing into landing, which led to energy leaks down the chain.

From that point on, we hit it with constraint drills prioritizing athleticism. 1️⃣ Drop Step 2️⃣ Lateral Roll ins 3️⃣ Janitor drills We forced his pelvis to stay closed early so he had to open it up properly by the time he released the ball.

By November, he hit me up about his velo dipping. I told him and his dad: ‘You’ve been going at it nonstop since April. This is just fatigue. Nothing to worry about.’ So we shut him down. Biggest deload I’ve given anyone.

During the shutdown, we focused on one thing: Getting stronger. 💪 I told him, "Get your deadlift to 355." Two weeks later, he did it. Then I said, "Alright, now 405." He crushed that too.

After a full deload, we built him back up. First, flat ground pulldowns. Then, mound velo work. One day, Bryce texted me saying he hit 90 mph for the first time ever. We were on the right track. 📈

His next bullpen? 91-92 every pitch even topping 93. I told him, "We’re not counting it until we see it again." A few weeks later, he sent me another bullpen. Every pitch was 91-92.

During his most recent in-house visit we identified new areas of emphasis.  Vald Force Decks showed he has room to improve peak force and power output.  The mocap report showed that we can still improve pelvis sequencing and optimize the scap load. But he was still up ~6 mph

Bryce is already at the top of his class, but we’re still refining things. By June, when schools can start calling.. He’ll be getting blown up on day one.
