They said the same thing about the plains Indians when they started eradicating native Americans in North America. Fuck what a colonist has to say imagine invaders trying to retell you your own history? We all know the victors of wars tell the tale the way want it to be told

Just because Europeans had a more superior culture (yes more superior, a slave-based cannibalistic culture is inferior) doesn't mean they were the bad guys.

Europeans ate people too and are in-fact the ultimate bad guy in world history

The plains Indians had been warring amongst themselves practicing slavery and genocide since time immemorial. Someone better comes along and they want to cry about it? Lmao

And the losers of wars will tell the tale the way *they* want it to be told. So what? What matters is the truth, and that isn’t decided by your status as a victim. Douglas’ point is that if losers have decided they want to selectively excoriate other cultures based on centering the bad and ignoring the good, winners can (and I think should) do the same with them. If you want to make an argument for your position, then make it. But if all you have is “f*ck what colonists have to say,” then the proportionate and reciprocal response would seem to be “no, f*ck what you have to say.” And since we’re talking about losers responding to winners, that seems an ill-suited response to secure any outcome the Maori may want.

Nah unfortunately there’s more than two nations in this earth. History remembers and good people on all sides will report atrocities for example that’s how we know Christopher Colombus is a pedophile. That’s how we know Nero was insane.
