Why donate?
The Tor network is an invaluable tool for journalists, activists, vulnerable individuals, and everyday privacy seekers looking to bypass censorship and avoid tracking on the internet.
While the Tor Project itself develops the software and operates valuable infrastructure, its privacy-preserving network relies on a huge network of independent, community volunteer-run relay servers to carry that traffic.
Unredacted, Emerald Onion, and Triplebit are three organizations among many who are operating high-capacity privacy-focused infrastructure for the public good.
All three projects run their own hardware and own their own IP addresses and networks, which is a significant expense over VPS hosting in the name of improved privacy, and requires extraordinary support from their donors to continue operating 😊

Once again, like “stopping terrorists” or “protecting children,” this is another attack on the American people in the name of “security.” When will we stop accepting “security” as an excuse?
They are only banning “consumer routers.” I wonder how they differentiate. Is Ubiquiti consumer grade? Are we going to see an explosion in “small business routers”?
Little text that says “not for residential use” like how people are buying peptides/drugs online that are “not for human consumption” these days?

A VPN ban doesn’t mean that they’re going to lock up every single person who uses a VPN or watches porn.
Your government’s strategy is to make “crimes” like this as common and easy to commit as possible.
This way, if you ever do something completely legal which they *actually* don’t like, *which can be completely unrelated to VPNs or bypassing age verification,* they can pull up your internet history and easily prosecute you.
Organize a legitimate protest, and the government’s swift response will be to label you a child sex offender because they found you using evil VPN technology.
This is how free speech dies, not from a law that says “free speech is dead now,” but from draconian, authoritarian laws like this that give the government “plausible” reasons to go after anyone, which can’t easily be fought against.
💯 this, and I’m once again begging libertarian-type tech people to understand that a “VPN ban” or Chat Control doesn’t mean they’re going to prevent you specifically from using a VPN or an encrypted messenger.
It means when they catch you doing so, they’ll use that fact itself as a pretense to lock you up without needing to do any “hard work” like actually confirming whether you committed a real crime.
Don’t think you won’t be impacted just because you know how to outsmart an ISP filter!

Section 230 is a critical law protecting free speech on the internet as we know it, by preventing courts from misinterpreting the Constitution as they are wont to do these days.
Free speech is your 1st Amendment right as an American, but Democrats and Republicans alike are giddy at the idea of eroding it and shutting people up whenever and wherever they can.

🚨 The government wants to create an internet where all user generated content must be pre-approved by AI nanny bots making sure all their citizens stay nicely in line.
The agenda being pushed forward in the US this week will destroy freedom and liberty for Americans on the internet.
Worse than age verification is the idea of repeating Section 230. Section 230 is the law that created the internet. It protects you as a user and prevents censorship. If they repeal Section 230, the internet could literally disappear overnight. I wish I was being hyperbolic.

We've deployed 2 anycast IPv6 networks for our authoritative DNS servers to replace our existing setup: 2602:f4d9::/48 for ns1 and 2602:f4d9:1::/48 for ns2. BGP/RPKI setup is propagating.

We've finished setting up our new PoP in Kansas City! ⚡️
Our plan is to host many of our high-bandwidth services that don't require power or network redundancy there. Our new deployment contains Tor relays operating on our GreenWare hardware, and our NoiseNet network!
