TRAVEL ALERT/Johns Island:
Watch out for a crash on River Road near Farmland Road.
Emergency personnel are currently on scene of an overturned semi-truck carrying pool chemicals.
According to the St. Johns Fire District, the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 A.M. today. St. John’s is being assisted by the Charleston Fire Department Hazardous Materials team, Charleston County EMS, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, And Charleston Police Department.
There are no reported injuries, and at this time, there is no identified threat to the public. Crews are actively monitoring air quality in the surrounding area as a precaution.
Local schools and school bus transportation officials have been notified of the incident and associated road closure.
Motorists should expect an extended closure in the area of River Road and Farmland Road into this evening while crews await the arrival of a specialized hazardous materials cleanup contractor and recovery operations are completed.
We ask motorists to avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow emergency and cleanup personnel to operate safely.
