I'm just gonna say this: Bilal understands how the drug markets work in the Tenderloin. Providing data on day vs. night activity is actually really smart. @DanielLurie @mattdorsey @kunalmodi
Same block. Different city after dark.
By day, parts of the Tenderloin look like any other SF street. At night, the drug market comes back, and the 3,500 kids who live here still can't walk home safely.
We're making real progress. The drug market during the day has largely dissipated. Overdose deaths are down and SFPD and the DA's office are arresting more dealers than ever.
But we won't truly shut the market down at night until we're honest about what's left. Over the next few weeks I'm breaking down the data: where the market operates, what's working, what isn't, and why it's still so hard to get people into treatment.

The Mayor of San Jose and hopefully a future governor has more spine than almost everyone in a leadership position in the Democratic party in California. He knows criminal justice reform and "harm reduction" have gone too far.
At some point, intervention has to mean more than processing the next case and sending someone back out. If it's clear someone isn't rehabilitated, they need to do more time. And if their issue is stemming from a serious addiction or mental health issue, they need treatment.Β (3/4)

π¨BREAKING: Study shows "safe injection sites", a place where people can bring illegal drugs and use them under staff supervision, are NOT effective.

CoRE is doing another study that will track results up to one year after the closure of the Red Deer Safe Injection Site. Data is finally emerging to debunk these sites and I'm grateful to the @ONDCP and @samhsagov in the U.S. for embracing recovery and treatment first.

Next up? Let's shut down the two Safe Injection Sites operating in violation of federal law in Harlem, NYC. The 1986 Anti-Drug Abuse Act prohibits these sites in the U.S. Not sure why @KathyHochul is allowing them in light of this new evidence. Read the study. know the truth.
